Diamond Select Toys launches a pair of Star Trek ships

The Art Asylum Blog has tipped us off to a pair of upcoming models from Diamond Select Toys featuring two ships from Star Trek. And if it's Star Trek, I have to put it up here. Although Art Asylum's production of Trek ships is on hiatus, possibly trapped in a causality loop of some kind, Diamond Select Toys will be making two brand new models that look pretty sweet.

The first is the Enterprise-B, featured in the film Star Trek: Generations. It's literally the Excelsior with bits glued on to it so that the production team could blow those bits up during the movie. If you want a bit of Trek trivia, the Enterprise-B was not the only Excelsior-class ship to have those modifications. Set nearly a century later, spin-off series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine featured another such ship, the Lakota.

Next up is the iconic Klingon Bird of Prey, specifically the one in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country which was totally OP and could fire while cloaked. That's not very sporting or honorable, is it? Of course the Klingon system of honor was not well-established at that time - they were written to be space communists.

Both models have working lights and can make sounds. The Enterprise is 16" long while the Bird of Prey is 12.5" long with a hefty 19" wing span (and articulated wings). There's no pricing info yet but both models are expected to be out by the end of the year, with older models also coming back into production by spring 2013. Time to get my Trek on.
