Collecting for the rich: T.I.E. Fighter model sells at auction for $402,500 photo

There's a level of collecting that most of us will never see: the kind where you fork over thousands to obtain very rare and sometimes mildly disturbing pieces art of sculptures. Believe me when I say just because we aren't doing it doesn't mean we wouldn't like to, as the only thing that stands between me and a literal truckload of toys is lack of funding.

At Profiles in History's 32nd annual auction, many such items were sold for gloriously high amounts, such as the T.I.E. Fighter model above, which was used during the filming of Star Wars: A New Hope. The winning bid landed at $402, 500 -- not too shabby. George Lucas must eat money for breakfast.

Also of interest to the toy collector, the original hero ray gun and holster from Forbidden Planet was sold for a cool $46,000.I can't imagine what it must feel like to have such an item in your house, to play with at anytime. As my imagination wanders, I consider what I would want to own if I had endless amounts to spend, and suddenly I envision myself clanking about in Ridley's mecha armor from the ending of Alien. What's your dream collectible?

MOAR kinda pricey:

Aliens, Colette. Aliens.
And it was the Power Loader.
Why, yes, I am a huge Alien nerd.

And I will own the Alien Queen some day. Oh yes, it will be mine...

I once had dreams of sitting in the ship from Flight of the Navigator. Then I saw it rusting alongside one of the rides at Disney's MGM park. My dreams were crushed like it's shabby, hole-filled shell ;_;
The bone organ (not that, sicko) from Goonies would be unattainable tops. Wouldn't mind getting armor like Kael's from Willow. A full size alien egg from Aliens? On and on the list goes.
