Childhood toys make somewhat good movies, so here's Battleship the movie photo

Yes, what you see above is real. A movie based on the classic boardgame Battleship is coming to theaters next summer in 2012. The movie does not involve the strategic guessing and placement of pegs on a board, but rather there's some unknown craft that meddles in some delightful war games.

Stuff is going to blow up, there's a tacked-on love story (is there any other type?), and some eye candy in the forms of Brooklyn Decker and Rihanna (because why the hell not?). There's no need to find any more sense in this, it's just going to be a movie featuring a group of Naval vessels fighting an alien multi-environment craft. There's no Michael Bay directing and it will probably be better than G.I. Joe.

I will also be making odds on how far into the movie someone says, "You sunk my battleship!" If you'd like to see the horror for yourself, check out the trailer and make your bets after the jump.

MOAR OH GOD WHY:

Legacy Comments

Not sure why anybody just offhand pan this, other than the possible alien part of it. A lot of the older board games really never had a ton of story to them so they are open to these adaptations. Plus there have always been a few games where it was surprising that it took them so long to make a movie about, like in the case of Clue (which while not being anything like what I wanted was still a pretty fun film after I got over the fact it was a comedy)
Have we talked about the Candy Land movie on here yet? They're gonna try and make it into a Lord of the Rings epic

It probably would be workable, tbh. I mean, Katy Perry's bootleg Candy Land the Key of Awesome parody shows that >_>
Oh boy, a movie about horribly outdated navel hardware.

As far as I'm aware, battleships are still the standard for naval combat >_>
The audience demands a crossover with Hungry Hippos.
The Clue movie was awesome. With the right idea and people involved you can make a great film out of just about anything. That said this is probably going to be terrible...
This makes me sadface.
