Check out Ryan McNaught's massive LEGO Coliseum

Check out Ryan McNaught's massive LEGO Coliseum photo

Ryan McNaught has built some truly amazing LEGO creations that have been displayed around the world. Those models include a cutaway model of a Qantas Airbus A380 and a massive Saturn V rocket. His latest creation is this beautiful Roman Coliseum, which he built for the University of Sydney.

The Coliseum itself stands more than a meter tall; 1.3 meters wide, and 1.8 meters long. It was made from over 200,000 bricks. About 60,000 bricks have gone into building areas that are underneath the stadium. These areas include dungeons to keep the prisoners and little passage ways so that creatures can be let lose directly into the Coliseum from below.

Outside the Coliseum is an impressive Arch of Constantine as well as various trees and shops. What makes it the set really stand out is that half of the coliseum is old and ruined, while the other half is modern and restored. It's kind of a fusion of old and new, with scenes depicted of Roman soldiers riding chariots and prisoners being led down passages, to a tour bus bringing tourist to go see the sites and even the Pope coming to pay a visit in his Popemobile.

Be sure to check out the gallery to see all of the beautiful details. I particularly liked the photos of the street stands and all the close ups where you can see the amount of work that was put into showing the old decayed structure next to the newer ones.

Meet Davidkraig at Kidrobot NY's May 18 customizing event

Want to come check out some live customizing and meet artist Davidkraig? If you're in New York City, you can do that on Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. Eastern at Kidrobot New York (118 Prince St., SoHo, Manhattan).  As for what he'll be working on ... I'm not too sure. But you've seen his work before, and I assume he'll be sculpting out/painting something just as impressive for the event.
