Walt Disney World has had create-your-own toy experiences before. The Mr. Potato Head area in Downtown Disney's Once Upon A Toy, with special Disney Parks-related pieces, leaps readily to mind. There are also those special lightsabers that a Star Wars fan can customize to their hearts content. Now, a new Star Wars-themed build-your-own toy has come to Disney World's Hollywood Studios park.

This time, park-goers will get the chance to create their own droids at the Droid Factory, building them from a combination of domes, bodies, and legs, plus optional third legs and silly accessory hats. Hats like the Goofy hat, Yoda Hat, fedora, and pirate hat, will be released later this summer. A feature I found pretty interesting is that these custom droids can be used with other Star Wars-themed toys the parks have released, such as the Starspeeder 1000. A single droid costs US$11.95, while a two-pack is US$18.95.

So far, this experience is only planned for Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World with no word on something similar popping up at Disneyland. However, comments on the Disney Parks blog suggest that, should the Droid Factory prove popular, other locations might be considered.
