Otakon 2012 is coming soon! Once again, I will be hosting the Japanese PVC Figures panel. It's a fun hour where we talk about about figures, collecting, the latest announcements and events, and do Q&A. Everybody is welcome!

Japanese PVC Figures and Collecting
Saturday, July 28, 2012
1:30PM - 2:30PM
Panel 2 (BCC 324-326)

Also, this year I want to have a collector meetup after the panel. One hour is not enough to talk about figures! Plus, meet other collectors, talk about hobbies, and have fun! Who is up for it?

For the meetup, the panel room hallways are very crowded, so we will need to move. The outdoor terrace is nearby and accessible. I'll be there after clearing out the panel room.

So, interested in the meetup? Do you have ideas or suggestions for the panel? What topics are you interested on? Want to bring a figure to show off? Questions? Feel free to post in the comments.

See you at Otakon!

tl;dr:

* apologies for the problem.
* surface mail was a mistake.
* full shipping refund. Refunds start 08.11.
* free replacement if your Nendoroid is damaged on arrival.
* promise that all future shipments will indeed be EMS.

So much for a 800k scam. Shall we go back to enjoy our hobby?

(First, thanks to Kristina for the heads up on Otakon 2011's figure panel).

The Japanese Figures and Collectibles panel returns to Otakon! Last year's panel was a lot of fun, so I am looking forward to meet you this year!

The panel will be on Friday, July 29, 9:00AM, panel room 5.

In this year's edition I'll be working again with figure photographer super_rats from HappySoda. Plus, we will be joined by a long time collector who introduced me into the hobby.

We will display some of our favorite figures, show nice pictures, and give our perspective on the hobby. We want to listen to your questions and point of view, so please join the discussion in the Q&A session!

Plug: I'll be hosting the Japanese Figures and Collecting panel at Anime Expo this year.

I'll be working with Japanator's Jeff Chuang and a good old friend. We will display some of our figures, show some nice pictures in the background, and talk about our experiences as collectors. We will talk about why we enjoy this hobby and more practical things you will find useful as a collector. We will also have a Q&A session where you can share your experiences and ideas; please do so!

The panel will be on Sunday, July 3rd, 8:00 PM. Room LP3. Looking forward to meet fellow Tomopop readers!

During this weekend, Good Smile Company celebrated its tenth anniversary with an event in Akihabara. The event started with a private reception, followed with a public event.

Of personal interest, they had an exhibit of all the figures they have produced, which I would have loved to see in person. PVC figures have evolved a lot in the past ten years, and Good Smile Company has been an important player. Together with Alter and Max Factory, they have continuously raised the bar of quality PVC figure design, sculpting, and production.

They also showed incoming products, including the previously linked Real Action Hero Black Rock Shooter by Medicom.

The event was covered by several sites, including Danny Choo, Akiba Hobby and Moeyo.

Danny Choo also has an article focusing on Medicom's BRS. Looking real darn good, though Medicom's Real Action Hero line is on the expensive side.

Japanese hobby site Moeyo posted a sample review of the 2011 edition of Nendoroid Racing Miku.

The main difference between the reviewed sample and the original prototype is the hair color: the sample has a less pronounced transparency, especially at the tip of the tails. However, the figure still looks great, and is in the road to be a great addition to the Good Smile Racing Nendoroid line.

Anybody else getting this cutie? This is my favorite design of Racing Miku, so for me its a definite yes =)
