Re: pony-related posts, blocking content, post schedules, etc.

Heya folks. There were some incendiary comments going on in Rio's latest Tomopop about Town feature, so I thought I'd bring the discussion over here.

The points made were that Orannis is tired of too many pony-related posts, though others suggested he just skip over content he doesn't care about.

We have a very active community and folks can comment, negatively or positively, on whatever they like, as long as it doesn't involve hurting others or insulting the writers, etc etc. You, as a reader, are entitled to enjoy or dislike any thing you want to, just as we, the editors, are to the same. There's a problem when things devolve to insults and cat-fighting in the comments section, though.

So here's what I want from you. Opinion time:

Ponies: are we posting too much? I think we're averaging to maybe twice a week, but this could change. I tip pony-related stuff because there is staff interest in the subject and I assumed we also have readership interest. If this isn't the case, we could look into perhaps reducing our pony-related post content (though honestly, by doing that I'm sure someone'll complain that we post too much of something else)

Before anyone complains about too much designer news versus PVC, and a note on timing: Tomopop started as a vinyl/designer toy-centric site and those posts aren't going anywhere. We are committed to supporting artists and their work, and the PVC stuff came in much later. We try to post as much as we can from both worlds, but you (as a reader) have to understand that time is limited and it's also mostly based on staff interest. At the end of the day, we're a blog. We aren't required to post specific things or even post them at a specific time (there are few exceptions). Also note that we have a schedule -- sometimes, we'll post something "a day late" or something. It's not because we found out about it a day late, it's because the schedule was full up until that point and it's the first open space we had for that particular bit of news. That or just nobody had the time to post it until it went up. This site -- we all run it on our free time.

Filters and blocking: Are you interested in a feature that allows you to filter specific content? As it is, you could browse based on certain criteria such as PVC, reviews, certain companies, etc. and just look for the latest news in that, though most readers just browse the front page and pick which articles they want to read from there. At this time, there is no way to filter particular tags or content except for the NSFW filter which blocks the header image in that post. I think we're integrating a system where logged-in users could completely block NSFW content (never even see it on the front page) as well. Would you want to see specific tags be added to a feature like this?
