Black Rock Shooter Fest 2010: Yes, the franchise has its own festival already photo

Held in Akihabara on August 15th, the first Black Rock Shooter campaign event was clearly a success, if the report over at Abnormal End is any proof. You can see some of the stuff shown there in our gallery. A lot of it is not new: the BRS Nendoroids and Figmas were there, as expected, along with the animation version of Black Rock Shooter, the Dead Master full scale PVC and the insane new Black Gold Saw PVC, which I want worse than I can possibly describe to you here.

That's not all, though. There was TONS of BRS art on display, a figure of the Rock Cannon by itself, and -- get ready for this -- BRS cars and motorcycles. I couldn't make this up if I tried. I know the franchise is getting really insane and some people are not into it anymore, but I am so happy to see such dark looking figures I have to admit I just lose my mind every time I see them all. I want them ALL. Are you over the BRS craze or still into it?

MOAR PVC:

Legacy Comments

I have intense black gold saw love, so yes. I'm still excited for the figmas, the only scaled version i want is BGS. I actually liked the OVA though. I heard they are going to release a RPG soon.
Fuck yeah 3D Dot figure. I hope they release those.

Someone convince me to get the 3D Dot game already, please.
I want this figure more than my next breath of air. Damn sexy thing!
I think Black Gold Saw just saddled up next to Append Miku on my most wanted of the year list
i want this figure,>.< hope the release it soon i love the details
I want all of the animation figures, BRS, Dead Master and I think Black Gold Saw is an "animation version" by the looks of her base and where she is sat next to in the display case. I might be wrong, but needless to say I want the whole set.
Can't wait to pre-order Black Gold Saw. I had the same reaction when I first saw Dead Master... DO WANT. Will probably get the both the figma & PVC.

3D Dot Game Heroes? It's good, and probably worth the $40 it costs if you have the time to spend on it. I kinda rushed through it, and there's a ton of side-quests, so that's probably not a good idea.

...I also used a BRS character at some points while playing (mostly played as the default hero, Nagato, and Cirno), so...
Honestly, I think the Black*Rock Shooter fad is getting a bit overblown. The song was catchy, yes, and there are quite a lot of nice character designs (I admit to preordering a Dead Master Figma myself), but people are really blowing this out of proportion. The OVA was stretching it (come on, you could tell that they didn't really have much of an idea of what to do with the property). The way they're making B*RS EVERYTHING now (there were signs advertising B*RS-curry-bento-boxes at WF) just seems like they're trying to milk this craze for all its worth, before it goes the way of Lucky Star and dies out when the next big moe-thing comes along. I just wish people knew where to stop...

That being said, I do really like this one piece of art from the festival:

I was truthfully a little disappointed in it. It seemed like a lovingly crafted tribute to Zelda at first, but eventually I realized it was nothing more than a gimmicky Zelda clone. A good gimmicky Zelda clone, with plenty of references to other games thrown in, but it's no classic Zelda. The side quests bored me, and I never completed the whole game. I may eventually, but it just wasn't what I was hoping it would be.

You're probably not the only one. Did you see the new BRS game teaser? I'd normally be "FUCK YEAH BRS GAME", but I got so tired of it that it was like "Meh, ok"
But BRS does bring us awesome fanarts, at least. Their character design and the overall mood is appealing, and the artists sure are making good use of those.
I'm actually a bit concerned - as much as I didn't like the OVA, I didn't want the franchise to die so fast. It's almost like a forced fad - feels just like a forced meme.

And thanks for the reviews on 3D Dot Game Heroes! I was afraid all it had that was trully innovating was the graphics/character customization. Since I don't really like the original Zelda, I think I'll have to pass on it then... Which is sad, the customization seems fun.
They should release Lego-like blocks so you cold make them IRL, that'd be fun X3
This is really getting to be all kinds of insane.

That would be pretty hot.

Just as a note, that curry restaurant is run by GSC/Max Factory, so it's not *that* big a deal to see a BRS meal from them.
ooh, why do I have to love cash cows like this?! These figures are looking B E A UTIFUL! I really want both nendos, the figmas, and I'd even give the Black Gold Saw PVC a try... even though it's price will probably be way out of my league.

also, people who hated the OVA! There's hope in the RPG!!
Watched the last hour of NicoNicoDouga's stream--Kana Hanazawa in the FLESH. And LIVE. But no Miyuki so meh.

Anyway, no, milk BRS hard and forever and ever because it'll work and it's awesome. Also; the itashas an' stuff have been around for ages and ages. I am not impressed, hmph. The car stickering is to be expected.

Now, if there was live feed of Miyuki Sawashiro doing...something--then I'd be impressed.

And if not the RPG, I'm sure we have many, many more cmedia tie-ins down the road =p
You'd think that BRS was the second coming of Christ at this rate!

Though I am still getting the figmas, and I would love the PVCs, but anything more than that is a pass for me.

But someone needs to hire me to re-write the OVA, because that could have been better even if it was just an action cliche.

Agree: OVA sucked. Here's how it should have gone:

Dead Master regards you coolly with her bright green eyes. "You may have defeated my minions, but.. but don't think I went easy on you!" Is she... a tsundere!? She strolls over to a nearby settee and gracefully sits. Her batwings flutter, then fold elegantly behind her. She pats the seat beside her and looks at you coyly. "Please sit with me, I need to tell you a secret". You walk over and sit beside her. The eerie green light from the maelstrom plays across her delicate features. Looking at her this closely you can't help but notice that if it wasn't for the horns and claws, she would look like a regular girl. A very pretty girl. She slides slowly across the cushion, until she is pressed up against you. For a 9th level demon spawn, she is surprisingly warm. She leans close, then hesitates, her lips inches from your ear. You can feel her cool breath on your neck. "Why so tense?" Suddenly your ear is being nibbled, and you hear a girlish giggle. She flicks out a razor-sharp claw and places it lightly in the middle of your chest. In the dim light it looks like polished obsidian. "I am awed that you managed to reach this level". The tip of her claw traces an imaginary line down your chest, coming to a stop over your abdomen. "But what I need to tell you is..."

"...that I am so lonely by myself. No one has been brave enough to fight their way down here to the 9th level. Maybe before you return the Pietroassan Rune, you could... play with me? For a little while?”

Oh, you said ACTION cliche. Nevermind....
