Can a collection have too much Batman? Mattel doesn't seem to think so, as all we know about the most recent Batman Unlimited so far is that it will include two more Batman figures. Because, well, Batman! Never you mind that we're still getting plenty of Batman figures in the DC Unlimited line either.
First up is the "Planet X" Batman (or the Batman of Zur-En-Arrh). If this were played straight, the figure would be a representation of a Silver Age Batman counterpart from another world. However, if you look closely,it's really the modern version from Grant Morrison's Batman R.I.P. story arc where Batman is driven to insanity by Doctor Hurt but has in place an emergency personality that he developed after years of intensive training (and can see Bat-Mite as a hallucination). Tell me, which explanation sounds crazier?
The other figure is a bigger, beefier Batman based on his The Dark Knight Returns appearance. This one is really neat for using a wider, bulkier mold (which I think was from an upcoming Metal Man) which makes him a bit more exciting. Not that a rainbow colored Batman isn't exciting as well.
"Planet X" Batman will come with a baseball bat (oh, BAT-man, I finally get it!) and a re-deco'd Bat-Mite (previously he was a K-Mart exclusive bonus). Presumably not included will be his little radio that doesn't work yet he can hear stuff through it. Oh well. At any rate, I'm not sure if I'll be picking up either one just yet but either one would stand out among the other DCU Batman figures.
