Bandai re-releases Laputa Flaptter kit photo

As a child, I wasn't exposed to much quality Miyazaki. Nausicaä was released in bastardized form as Warriors of the Wind, and that's probably all I can recall. It wasn't until the late '90s that I started finding fansubs of his work, and he eventually became one of my all-time favorite directors, especially after I took the trip to Chicago to watch Princess Mononoke on the big screen. I've gobbled up all his work, but I have a special place in my heard for Laputa, and only wish I could have grown up with the film as so many Japanese children did.

Up for pre-order is a re-release of a kit based on one of the more iconic models from Laputa, the "Flaptter". While cheap, the 1/20 scale kit requires a lot of detail in order to complete, so only enthusiasts need apply. Still, with a bit of work it can turn out great, as evidenced by FitchenFoo's completed model. Pre-orders are now up at HobbyLink Japan, AmiAmi, and Hobby Search, with an MSRP of 1,500 yen.

Legacy Comments

Never saw Nausicaa/Warriors of the Wind. I was lucky that Mononoke came to a somewhat local theater, though. It ended up as one of my fave films for quite a while.
I'd love a prepainted one
Laputa was my first anime experience, period, and still one of my favourite films. As such, I'll probobly end up buying this, and crying over the mangled mess of painted plastic I'll almost certainly produce. I could wait for someone else to paint-and-post on ebay, but that wouldn't be right. Sensible, but not right.
Wish this was prepainted. I can't do a model that ends up looking that good.
wow.
