Hey, who knew you could import figures from places other than Japan? There's been a lot of talk about Asia exclusives in the Transformers universe lately and it would seem things are just getting started. Both Hasbro and Takara Tomy have been heating things up in the East with new figures from their respective brands. We talked in depth about Hasbro's side of things back at San Diego Comic Con, now it's time to look at what Takara Tomy has to offer.
Alternity was a fairly short lived series made as a sort of successor to the Binaltech line (Hasbro's Alternators). Around a dozen figures were made using only four figure molds making up characters like Optimus Prime, Megatron, Bumblebee, and Starscream. It had its fans, but didn't seem to be as successful as its predecessor. Still that hasn't stopped Takara Tomy from releasing two new exclusives. Galvatron will be a purple repaint of Nissan Fairlady Z Megatron while Banzaitron will be a black repaint of the Mitsuoka Orochi alt mode Starscream mold. Both figures will be released on September 29 around Asia and at Toyhobby Market within Japan.
The next figure is a bit of a mystery as it has only been teased with little to go on. The first entry in the new Asia Premium Series is APS01 Striker Optimus Prime. From what little we can tell it's a metallic repaint of Takara Tomy's own DA-28 Striker Optimus Prime from the Dark of the Moon movie line. The figure itself use the Leader class Optimus Prime from Revenge of the Fallen, but there's no telling just how the two releases will differ, though we do know it'll come with a bonus weapon. This version will only be released in Asia outside of Japan on September 30.
Finally we only just learned about Takara Tomy releasing their own take on a Classics style Ultra Magnus this week. Hasbro released their version way back in 2007 as a Target exclusive (bundled with Skywarp), but now it's Takara Tomy's turn six years later. This new version will feature all new paint, some chromed parts, and special packaging. He'll only be available in China on September 28.
So is anyone here excitedly looking forward to snagging any of these or are you bitter at the thought of more Transformers exclusives?
