A blast from your childhood past: Mr. Potatohead with a fresh coat of paintRaggedy Anne and Furbys (thank god) may have been erased from modern childhood toyboxes, but Mr. Potatohead is one of those childhood toys that will never die. And now with his new mechanical upgrades from designer Sarah Calvillo, it looks like he'll be stomping around forever, possibly demanding that Mrs. Potatohead make him a sammich, or other steampunk/sci-fi treat. "Spudnik" was born out of a craft swap where the material was "old toy" and the theme was "steampunk," Sarah wrote on Instructables. Looking briefly through her past design work, it seems like this is her first time crafting a figurine like this, and the result are great. See more of Spudnik's building process on Sarah's Flickr. There's been somewhat of a kerfuffle over the custom, as some people have noticed similarities in Spudnik and Doktor A's steampunk-esque toys. Given the situation, I'd like to think this is simply happenstance (and really, aren't there only so many ways to do steampunk?) [via GearfFuse] Did you know?
