[Update] Japanese 7-Eleven stores give away two giant Evangelion prizes photo
[Update] Japanese 7-Eleven stores give away two giant Evangelion prizes
by Jeremy Emerje Crocker

[update: All 25 of the statues put up for sale sold out in two minutes at that price. Two minutes! That's insane!]

Ever wonder what it would look like if NERV was funded by a major international convenient store chain? Probably not, but you're going to find out. 7-Eleven in Japan is working with the Evangelion franchise to produce giant two meter tall Unit 01 figures colored in 7-Eleven green, orange, and red. Best part is fans (only in Japan) don't even have to walk into a store to score one of the two up for grabs. One will be given away to a random person who visits 7-Eleven's Japanese Twitter account and retweets the announcement. The other one simply requires liking their Japanese Facebook page. The giveaway only runs from now to August 11 so fans will want to act fast.

Sounds painless, but if you're a glutton for punishment you could always buy one. 7-Eleven is taking orders until August 31 for anyone crazy dedicated enough to drop ¥1,700,000 (a little more than US$16,600) on their choice of either 7-Eleven colors or normal purple. On the brightside the delivery guy will also put it together, though apparently they want a lot of space to work so I have to wonder if they'd work outdoors.

I certainly wouldn't be against winning one (if I was eligible), but I don't know if there's any character I would pay as much as a car to own a figure of.

Steal a look at Gaming Heads' new Skyrim Nightingale statue photo
Steal a look at Gaming Heads' new Skyrim Nightingale statue
by Jeremy Emerje Crocker

I can still easily remember the night of November 10, 2011. Waiting in line for my copy of the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on that frigid night really set the mood for a game set in the snow covered north. That's not to say I wasn't looking forward to getting to my warm home after midnight finally rolled around. And while I haven't touched the game in probably a year (and not out of lack interest) I'm still always very excited to see new things being made for the game.

In this case it's Gaming Heads' third entry in the Skyrim armor collection after the Breton and the Dragonborn with the Nightingale. The Nightingales are a secret group of elite thieves within the already secretive thieves gild. They wear a unique black armor and wield a custom bow and sword. Their skills are so refined that even fellow thieves don't believe they exist. The quest revolving around them is one of the better story lines of the game I think.

The figure definitely lives up the shadowy nature of the Nightingales. The armor is pitch black with only a few subtle shade differences. Much of its varied coloring comes from even darker shadows withing the plentiful sculpted details. He's posed holding the Nightingale bow with the Nightingale blade at his hip. The figure stands atop a base made to look like a river bank. There's even a mace just below the water's surface. While it looks great I think I would have rather have had the base be made to look the waterways below Riften instead.

The statue stands at 1/6 scale with a total height of 16 inches. The standard edition runs for US$299.99 and is limited to 1000 pieces. The exclusive edition is US$329.99 and features softly pulsing LED light in the base to make it look like the water is moving. That figure is limited to only 500 pieces and only available a the Gaming Heads store. Pre-orders are open now and the statues will be out in early 2015.

Now I kinda want to see a Dark Brotherhood statue.

Who needs a sports car when you can have a US$30,000 Optimus Prime statue?

Viz joins in on the SDCC 2014 figure exclusive fun with this 1/6 Naruto statue photo
Viz joins in on the SDCC 2014 figure exclusive fun with this 1/6 Naruto statue
by Jeremy Emerje Crocker

It's that time of year again! San Diego Comic Con 2014 is right around the corner so that means time to start showing off exclusives. This year we've got Viz Media, best known for their anime and manga distribution, trying their hand at SDCC exclusive collectibles with their Naruto Shippuden 1/6 scale Naruto Uzumaki statue.

The statue, produced by fairly new Japanese company Gecco, will measure in at 27 cm (10.6 inches) tall and shows him wearing his father's, the Fourth Hokage's, jacket. The sculpting really is top notch with lots of textures and they did a perfect job of capturing the young ninja's face. It's a statue worthy of being an SDCC exclusive, but that kind of quality comes at a price. He'll be sold at the the Viz booth with Gecco present for US$150. It's a lot of money, but this is one of the better Naruto statues out there and it's designed to stand out on a shelf. You can get yours when the conventions opens from July 23 to 27.

Darkseid throws down against Superman in latest DCC solicits

DC Collecibles' latest batch of solicits (pre-orders open) features a slew of heavy hitters, although none heavier than an incredible statue of Darkseid fighting Superman over a fire pit (presumably on Darkseid's homeworld of Apokolips). Other selections include that new Harley Quinn bust, sketches of new Scribblenauts Unmasked figurines, and the new L'il Gotham figures. Details after the jump.
