DCC's Bombshells Batwoman takes the whole 'bat' thing in a different direction photo
DCC's Bombshells Batwoman takes the whole 'bat' thing in a different direction
by Scarecroodle

Like a bad cartoon pun, DC Collectibles' upcoming DC Comics Bombshells Batwoman re-envisions Kathy Kane as either a baseball player or a bat-wielding vigilante. The figure was recently featured as part of a Bombshells promotional video.

While I like the statue (far more than I thought I would), I don't get why they went with this bland angle instead of doing something closer to the concept art. Is her head not swung around enough for that? All things considered, however, I'd say that DCC hit this one out of the park.

For those wanting to cover their bases, retailers have already begun pitching pre-orders. You can pick this one up from Entertainment Earth for US$100 and get free shipping on your order.

Hold that rocket! Roxy Rocket leads DCC's latest solicits photo
Hold that rocket! Roxy Rocket leads DCC's latest solicits
by Scarecroodle

DC Collectibles has released its latest batch of solicits and headlining the selection is none other than a B:TAS Roxy Rocket.

Batman: The Animated Series and DC Animated Universe fans will recall that Roxy Rocket was a character created exclusively for The New Batman Adventures who enjoyed a little popularity despite only appearing in one Batman episode ("The Ultimate Thrill") and one Superman: The Animated Series episode ("Knight Time", where Superman is forced to impersonate Batman to cover for his disappearance). Roxy, of course, will always have fans (although nowhere near as many fellow B:TAS creation Harley Quinn) and her figure -- which comes with her iconic rocket -- marks the line's first B:TAS deluxe release. The downside? Her US$40 price tag, which makes the rocket (which adds US$15 to the MSRP) one expensive accessory.

Other highlights include Jae Lee's DC Designer Series 1 (Catwoman, Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman), a Catwoman bust, a DC Comics Icons Green Lantern statue, a Gotham City Police Department badge (based on its appearance in the Gotham tv show), the DC Bombshells "newspaper boy" Lois Lane, and a Batman: Black & White Batgirl.

Most of these are due out in August and many should be available for pre-order right now. Be sure to check out the gallery for images.

All-powerful queen of the gods receives powerful new statue, currently up for pre-order photo
All-powerful queen of the gods receives powerful new statue, currently up for pre-order
by Scarecroodle

This is the story of a time long, long ago. A time of myth and legend, when the gods were petty and cruel and plagued mankind with suffering. One such goddess was Hercule's "evil" stepmother Hera, the all-powerful queen of the gods. Yamato has paid tribute to this wicked god-queen with a 1/6 scale statue in its "Fantasy Figure Gallery" line, currently available for pre-order.

Zeus's spiteful wife has often been depicted as a villainess in both mythology and popular media, whether it's going after Heracles/Hercules (as seen throughout much of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys) or providing causing roadblocks for Kratos in God of War III. However, Hera has also helped adventurers like Jason with his quest to obtain the Golden Fleece (as seen in 1963's Jason and the Argonauts) either when they meet her approval or to get back to somebody else.

Yamato has given Hera a decidedly youthful look which, while very attractive, reminds me quite a bit of Teela from He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. On the whole, it's not what I might picture when I think of Hera, but it's still an absolutely stunning statue... in fact, almost too attractive. Because if Hera looks this good, Yamato may have an insurmountable job ahead of them if they try to do an Aprodite as the goddess of love and beauty was said to be far more attractive. (Interestingly enough, Hera is listed as a cast-off which I wouldn't have otherwise suspected.)

Yamato's Hera is slated for a February/March release and can be pre-ordered for around US$220. If you pre-order through Yamato, you can directly support the company (and possibly receive a copy sooner)... or, if you pre-order through Entertainment Earth, you can get free shipping. And, of course, if you don't pre-order at all you'll have an empty space on your shelf and more money in your bank.

Gentle Giant's potted Groot is more creepy than cute photo
Gentle Giant's potted Groot is more creepy than cute
by Scarecroodle

Gentle Giant's potted Groot (Guardians of the Galaxy) is currently available for order. Based on Groot's method of respawning in the comics, this version is decidedly less adorable than the movie counterpart.

While the film notably (and I should mention that this is somewhat spoiler-y, although there's so much merch out there now that it's impossible to avoid) had Groot resurrected in a baby form (which danced!), the comics just have him as a smaller version of his normal self (as noted by Joe Moore of Toyark). So instead of being cute, this version of Groot looks a little scary.

This recently released statue comes with some optional accessories in the form of snow, a scarf, a ribbon, and Christmas lights (!!!). As such, GG's potted Groot may be one of the coolest Christmas trees of all time. While there's no listed height, I'm guessing that he's of a reasonable size.

GG's potted Groot statue can be ordered for US$120. Bring it home for next year's holidays. And, well, because.

Cowabunga! GSC to produce some TMNT statues photo
Cowabunga! GSC to produce some TMNT statues
by Scarecroodle

Good Smile Company will be producing statues based on fine artist James Jean’s original rendition of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The four statues' bases can be combined to create one large diorama.

Along with the already revealed Leonardo, prototypes for the remaining three turtle statues will be on display at the Good Smile Company booth (#422) during NYCC (which starts tomorrow?! Expect photos!).

Although I wasn't wowed by the art, the Leonardo sculpture looks surprisingly cool. As such, I'm looking forward to seeing the other statues (especially Donny, who has a great-looking pose in that art). No word on pricing yet (will they be cheap enough to tempt me?), but Leonardo is slated to be up for pre-order in the near future while the others will follow in 2015.

Gaming Heads' Sly Cooper steals the scene photo
Gaming Heads' Sly Cooper steals the scene
by Scarecroodle

Those deviously sly fellows at Gaming Heads have done it again, releasing yet another gaming icon statue. This time the subject is none other than Sly Cooper, the star of his eponymous Sony-exclusive game series.

Sly looks pretty neat in an action-ready pose. The character is perched upon what appears to be a rooftop diorama (the statue stands 12-inches tall including the base) with his cane in-hand. Like the sculpt but not the paint? Gaming Heads also has an exclusive bronze-painted version of the statue seemingly fit for a museum (from which it might later be stolen).

The regular version is limited to 750 pieces and can be pre-ordered for US$200. The exclusive version will run you US$210 and has a smaller 350 piece run. Both are slated for a second quarter release.
