C2E2 2015: Enterbay

The Chicago Bulls aren't the only ones still making money off the dynasty
Apr 28
// Tianxiao Ma
Enterbay is a lot like Hot Toys, focusing on realistic 1/6-scale poseable figures. They've done a few movie characters, but at C2E2 focus quite a lot on NBA players. Maybe it's pandering to Chicago's collective 90s nostalgia,...

let this figure worm its way onto your shelf
Apr 09
// Soul Tsukino
Yes, for some unholy reason, Storm Collectibles wants us all to turn back the clocks to the late '90s with this 1/6 scale figure of Dennis "The Worm" Rodman. The bad boy of Chicago Bulls basketball is fully articulated and co...

Movie and sports icons on display
Apr 27
// Tianxiao Ma
Enterbay is known for their realistic 1/6-scale poseable figures, competing with the likes of Hot Toys. At C2E2 they showed off a pair of 1/4-scale movie icons: RoboCop and the T-1000. They also brought a number of basketball icons to the event. Click on to see more info about their display.

Enterbay fully captures all the emotion of Derrick Rose

New 1/6 figure in their NBA Masterpiece
Dec 23
// Andres Cerrato
Derrick Rose isn't a man of much emotion or health for that matter. When he is healthy though, he is one of the best in the NBA that gives Chicago fans reason to hope (read: false) that they'll get past Lebron and actually wi...

A terrible thing I made: Custom Tim Tebow Gundam Maxter

Aug 05 // Andres Cerrato
I started out with this project with the ambition of going full-throttle through each NFL team. I started with Tebow because, at the time, it was the period just after he was traded and I figured due to all the hoopla, it’d be a decent start. It’s also painful for me to make as 1.) I’m a graduate of the University of Miami and I HATE the Gators and 2.) I’m a Dolphins fan and I HATE the Jets. You can see that hatred throughout this custom. As this was a 1/144 kit from 1994, there was a lot of work to be done. I fixed the Gundam Maxter in the Tebowing position. As this was a kit from 1994, the skirt armor was just one piece. In order to get the figure to be in the position necessary, I had to cut off the left skirt armor, cemented it in a different place and allowed for the articulation necessary. The articulation problems are all throughout, as I can’t get the pose exactly right. In this shot, you can start seeing the frustrations coming out. One of the details I was proud of at least were the similarities to the actual uniform of the Jets. The helmet and torso worked out pretty well, but I’m not really happy with my actual paint work. The lines aren’t straight as they could be and the decals were a giant frustration. Just about the only thing I think I got right was the eye black. The problems that I had with the decals were in two areas. The first issue was the guesswork in trying to get the right size. Eventually though, it’s something that you can work through and get right. The second problem was that I can’t print white decals. It wasn’t a problem for the helmet and sleeves and they were being placed on white backgrounds. The problems came with the backpack core fighter. What I had to do was paint where the decal would go white, let it dry, then make sure the decal doesn’t mess up. As you can tell by the final product, it’s not perfect.It also hurt that the decal printed color doesn't match the paint perfectly either. In the future, what I’ll have to do is plan out the full project, create all the logo decals, and order them from an online decal maker. It’ll be much less of a headache in the future. In the end, this project is a more of a learning experience than a final product. It’s a start of something, and I know how to tackle it in the future. With a new season coming up, I’ll need to start this up again and start completely over. Not only am I not satisfied with its start, but Tebow was released and has since become a New England Patriot. Yeah, I’m not doing that one. Go Dolphins.
Custom Tim Tebow Gundam photo
I have made a terrible mistake
G Gundam is downright silly. Stereotypes manifested themselves into some of the most odd mecha designs of the 90s. Neo America’s Gundam Maxter was a robot football player with pistols and a surfboard shield. I had an id...
