Feast your eyes on this preview of figma Inogashira Gorou photo
Feast your eyes on this preview of figma Inogashira Gorou
by Natalie Kipper

Most figma these days are buxom, doe-eyed girls or hardcore, armor-clad warriors. Inogashira Gorou of Kodoku no Gourmet fits neither of these categories but that isn't stopping this food-loving salaryman from being chosen as a new entry in the figure line. We saw his prototype in recent magazine scans and there is now a full-fledged gallery up on figma blog.

According to the post, Gorou will be available in two different versions, the Standard Serving Size and the Big Serving Size. The Big Serving Size version comes with a table, stool, and a meal of soup and pork stir-fry. Both versions come with his cigarette, a bowl of rice and a pair of chopsticks. The Standard Serving Size version will cost ¥4,500 while the Big Serving Size version will cost ¥5,556. Both will be available for pre-order beginning May 27.

More accessories revealed in this figma Haruka preview photo
More accessories revealed in this figma Haruka preview
by Martin Siggers

We got our first look at figma Haruka in colour a few weeks back courtesy of Hobby Stock. Now the site has updated its preview to include more of his acessories, and they're equal parts charming and bizarre.

We already knew he'd be coming with a plate of his favourite mackerel but now he'll also have the appropriate attire for preparing it, as his rather charming blue apron will be packed in. Also included is the inevitable but still welcome swim cap and goggles head, plus a more aggressive shouting face. The most curious inclusion though is what appear to be water effect parts (complete with their own stands) that allow 'swimming' poses to be created in mid-air. It's an interesting, if slightly unwieldy, idea.

I still feel that the figma as a whole suffers from the inability to hide the joints (particularly that gaping chest one) but it certainly seems Max Factory is putting a lot of thought into what could have been a pretty bare-bones figure. Pre-orders surely can't be far off, and we'll let you know when they go up.

Holy mackerel! Check out the first colored pics of figma Nanase Haruka from Free! photo
Holy mackerel! Check out the first colored pics of figma Nanase Haruka from Free!
by Jeremy Emerje Crocker

Thanks to Hobby Stock we're getting our first colored look at figma Nanase Haruka from Free! Now, I won't pretend to know anything about Free!, but I do know good figma when I see them. It's my opinion, but I've always thought that Max Factory does the skinny male anime character body type better than Bandai does in S.H. Figuarts. One of the best examples is one of the first figma, Lelouch Lamperouge from Code Geass, which had an amazingly slender body that still holds up seven years later. Getting back to the point, Haruka here is another example of MF doing guys right and even capturing his swimmer's muscle tone perfectly. I'm sure some of the ladies out there appreciate the sculpting more than I do, but it really is well done.

As for the accessories I won't pretend to know what context they're used in, but they are kinda interesting. I assume, but can't say for sure that his goggles can be worn since he also comes with a section of diving platform. I really don't know why his other accessory is an apron, but I'm sure there's a good reason. And for those able to get an order in at Hobby Stock they'll be able to get an exclusive filet of grilled mackerel. Again, I have no idea why, maybe it's a visual metaphor?

He'll be out in September, but we don't yet know what his price will be. Given that he's now being seen in color I'm sure it's only a short matter of time before pre-orders show up with even more photos. HS also announced that the second figma in the Free! line will be Tachibana Makoto so there's something new for fans to get excited for!

Don your stars 'n' stripes for figma Captain America pre-orders photo
Don your stars 'n' stripes for figma Captain America pre-orders
by Martin Siggers

figma Captain America's popped up in quite a few places recently, from the Miyazawa Model Exhibition to a Figsoku blog, but now he's finally been placed onto the official Good Smile site, which means we get lovely high quality preview images to pore over.

I think Cap looks great and Max Factory have done an excellent job of capturing all the detail in his outfit (check out those zips on his legs) while giving it the necessary tough, armour-like look. The face is super bland, but it's not a disaster and overall I'd classify the figure as a real looker.

Unfortunately (and exactly like past entries in the Avengers range), nobody is really going to talk about the figure when you could talk about the price - a whopping ¥6,111. That's the cheapest in the line yet but still utterly bonkers for a figma, and one which only comes with a single accessory (the shield) at that. Sadly I suspect that'll limit the sales of what looks to be a real smart toy, but if you've gotta have him pre-orders are open now.
