At the time of this post, it's only 15 days until San Diego Comic Con. With time ticking down, you know that there'd be a ton of exclusive announcements and let me tell you, companies have definitely unleashed the floodgates....
After having our appetites whetted by a gorgeous preview on Wednesday, Nendoroid Sakura Kinomoto from Cardcaptor Sakura is now in the wild, ready for pre-orders from all good stores. For those of you who didn't catch Good Smile Company's livestream, her final expression was revealed to be an unbearably cute happy/blushing combo, thus rounding out the suit of extras perfectly.
Although it's easy to forget, Sakura is also an important milestone for GSC as she's Nendoroid #400. To celebrate, the company is holding a contest over Twitter. They're looking for photos which link owners with their Nendoroids in memorable ways. Tweet them out with the hashtag #nendoro400 to see them appear on the GSC page, and five lucky winners will get Sakura as a prize.
For the rest of us, there's still the option of grabbing her from all good stores. Nendoroid Cardcaptor Sakura comes in at ¥4,800 (I'd normally complain about that price but come on) and will wing her way into our hearts this September. Needless to say, I could not be more excited.
We’re almost in spring! The weather is definitely getting better, even if the occasional cold winds come around. So to prepare, we’re doing a little pre-spring cleaning here at Tomopop.
We’re giving away one set of Persona 4 Half-Age Characters from Bandai. These are the same ones seen in our review by Martin. This contest will be simple, just leave a comment below saying what you’re looking forward to in spring.
You’ll have until April 30th to enter. This contest is open to fans worldwide, but if you live outside the United Kingdom we’ll kindly ask you to pay for the shipping.
You've built your Gunpla and now you want something to do with it. You've painted, sculpted new parts by hand, added armor by cutting many, many small pieces of plaplate. If you'd like the chance to show off your Gunpla, you can do so at this year's installment of the Gunpla Builders World Cup!
While sadly you won't be able to pilot your perfect Gunpla, only to be beaten by young boy on a quest, you can at least win. The GBWC, like in years past, will feature live competitions at 5 cons this year: Anime Central in Chicago, A-Kon in Dallas, Anime Expo in Los Angeles, Otakon in Baltimore and lastly at New York Comic-Con. If you can't make it out to any of the shows, there will be an online competition. If you are chosen as the Best in Show at any of these 6 competitions, you may be selected as the North American representative for the GBWC, which will of course mean additional prizes and a trip to Japan for the finals.
If you'd like to see the full rules and requirements, check out Bluefin's GBWC page. Now if you'll excuse me, I think I need to get building again.
Diamond Select Toys' 24-inch tall Stay Puft Marshmallow Man vinyl bank recently started to ship and, to celebrate, DST will be hosting a series of monthly contests where all fans need to do to win is take a photo of their 24-inch Stay Puft Marshmallow Man (either the good or evil version) somewhere outside and then email that photo to email@example.com. Easy, right?
Winners will score prize packages which consist of $100 worth of toys and collectibles from DST. Considering that Stay Puft himself retails for US$125, the figure could almost pay for itself.
The rules are stated as follows: "Photos must be at least 600 x 800 pixels. One entry per person per monthly cycle. Duplicate entries will not be included in the drawing. If you do not win, a new photo can be submitted after the start of the new month. A previously submitted picture cannot be submitted again. All entries become the property of Diamond Select Toys, and can be used on various Websites and social media sites. Prize package value is based on suggested retail price of all items combined. Winners are prohibited from entering any DST contest again for one year."
There's currently no word as to when this contest will end. It's certainly one way to promote a very cool, very high-ticket collectible.
Thanks so much to everyone who entered this month's Tomopop Micropixel contest. The theme was Girl Power, so the focus was all on female figures. I loved every submission, so it was really hard to pick a winner.
Still, our Tomopop panel of judges couldn't resist a group of gun-toting girls. So our winner is miletangerine! You will be getting Kaiyodo's Sci-Fi Revoltech Sulley and Mike.
Please email me at Vanessa@tomopop.com with your name and address. Look out for next month's contest where we'll be giving out even more cool stuff.
Reminder: There's still time to enter our Tomopop Micropixel contest. The deadline is March 17.
Hello Tomopop readers!
Here we are in a brand new month, so I think it’s about time we roll out a brand new photo contest! March is the start of Women’s History Month, today also just happens to be Girl’s Day in Japan. So the theme for this photo contest will be Girl Power.
Get out your female figures and take a photo that really makes them shine. Show them strong, fierce, and beautiful. Of course, creativity is always encouraged.
Don’t feel like you have to be limited to making your figure look a certain way. As long as your photo shows your female figure in a positive way it’s alright. To enter, comment on this post with your photo or a link to your photo.
A Green Lantern 1:1 Scale Power Battery (signed by Geoff Johns)
The amazing new Wonder Woman The Art of War: Wonder Woman by Jim Lee statue (signed by the artist himself, Jim Lee)
The DC Comics Super Heroes: Batman bust by Jim Lee (also signed by Lee)
A DC Comics Super-Villains: Suicide Squad Harley Quinn action figure
The 2013 SDCC Convention Exclusive: Batman: Arkham City: Hugo Strange action figure
The sweepstakes is limited to residents of the United States (sorry, rest of the world!) and will run until March 2nd (technically 11:59 p.m. on March 1st) when one very lucky entrant will be chosen. Will that lucky entrant be you? Enter now.
Reminder: The deadline for this contest is this Saturday. Submit your valentine for a chance to win!
It’s officially February, so that means Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Can’t you just feel the love in the air? Ok, well I just smell chocolate and that’s good enough for me.
My favorite part about this day is giving out valentine cards to all the people I care about. It’s even better when you make the valentine yourself, and that brings us to the contest! Here at Tomopop we love toys, and if you’re here, so do you.
So we want you to show that love by making a valentine for your favorite figure or fictional character. You can make your valentine any way you want. You can write it, draw it, bake it, knit it, etc.
Whatever you choose to do, make sure you take a picture and submit it in the comments here. Your valentine can be cute, sweet, creepy, funny, any way you want. Just be creative!
For example, one of my favorite figures is my Rick Grimes Pop! so I crocheted him a little heart he can hold. Hopefully you’ll be much more creative than me. The best submission we get will win an exclusive Funko Supernatural Castiel Pop! figure. I know what you're thinking, and the answer is yes, you can make a valentine for Castiel!
You’ll have until February 15 to submit your entries.
Happy Chinese New Year, Tomopop readers. Today begins the Year of the Wooden Horse, and hopefully this year will bring all of you lots of luck and success. Thank you to everyone who entered this contest, it was nice to hear what figures you are waiting for.
Now without further ado, the winner of this contest is quicksilver! You will be receiving Drew Oliver's Computer Virus Trojan plush and Computer Virus Trojan keychain. Please email your name and address to Vanessa@tomopop.com.
Our next contest will be happening very soon, so be on the lookout!
Chinese New Year is almost upon us. The Year of the Black Snake will be over on January 31, and the Year of the Wooden Horse will begin. To celebrate, we’re giving away a Computer Virus Trojan plush and keychain from Drew Oliver’s collection.
Get it? Trojan…wooden horse? Ok, it’s lame! Still, we’re giving away this set to one lucky Tomopop reader. You can also read our Tomopop review of the Computer Virus collection here.
So since we’re celebrating a new year, I want to know what figures and collectibles are you looking forward to in 2014? Answer that question in the comments and I’ll pick a winner on January 31.
A big thank you to everyone who entered out latest Micropixel contest! This time round the theme we set was 'Best of Friends' and you guys certainly took that to heart, pairing up your figures to produce some great shots.
As ever, the editorial team was pretty split over who they wanted to win, but at the end of the day we opted to go with IAmOneWithTheWindAndSky's adorable picture of Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl, as seen in the header above. Big congrats IAmOneWithTheWindAndSky, email me (firstname.lastname@example.org) to claim your prize! Very well done to all the other entrants as well for turning out some great shots. Keep your eyes peeled for another competition in the near future!
