DST announces Marvel Select photo contest winners photo
DST announces Marvel Select photo contest winners
by Scarecroodle

Back in August, Diamond Select Toys announced that it would be holding a Marvel Select-themed photo contest with a number of prizes which included MS prototypes, rare variants, and the such. The results are in and apparently the Rhino has charged to victory, being the subject of both Ryan Vasquez's winning photo (see header) and first runner-up (a.k.a. second place) Earl E. Ware's photo which depicts Rhino stomping on Spider-man. Second runner-up (or third place) went to Geof Le Baron, who shot Marvel Select's Agent Venom being overpowered by the fan-favorite Classic Venom.

Additionally, DST has recognized a number of other entries as being worthy of mention (they're also in the gallery). Personally I was impressed by Emmanuel's beach scene although, given it's an absurdly wide panoramic shot, I can understand why it didn't win for practicality reasons. However, I'd encourage you to download that one and just zoom in on each section since it's pretty creative. Fred also deserves some props for going all out with his rogues' gallery scene since he has NINE figures in there (including Deadpool peeking through a window) and it looks like it's all just DST-created Marvel Select merchandise which makes it a great showcase for the line's offerings.

Be sure to check out the gallery for all the photos and let us know who you think should have won.

Win this Funko Thor Pop! figure in honor of Thor: TDW photo
Win this Funko Thor Pop! figure in honor of Thor: TDW
by Vanessa Cubillo

It seems like just yesterday I was watching a fairly unknown Chris Hemsworth on the big screen portraying Marvel’s Norse God, Thor. Now two years and three Marvel movies later, Chris Hemsworth is back as Thor in Thor: The Dark World. I’ll admit that I’ve been enchanted by this golden god, and my love for him lead to me receiving two of the same figure.

Still, that’s good news for you! I’ll be giving away one Funko Avengers Thor Pop! figure to one lucky Tomopop reader. This is a vinyl figure that's over three inches tall and looks like Chris Hemsworth's Thor from Avengers. The figure will come mint in box.

To enter to win all you have to do is leave a comment and write why you like Thor. You have until November 12 to leave a comment. I’ll be taking my Thor Pop! figure with me to see Thor: The Dark World this weekend. Wouldn’t you like a tiny Marvel superhero as your movie companion too?

Tomopop Micropixel: Summer Holiday result! photo
Tomopop Micropixel: Summer Holiday result!
by Martin Siggers

Huge thanks to everyone who entered into our latest Tomopop Micropixel photo contest. We set the theme of 'Summer Holidays' and you certainly rose to the challenge, producing some rather lovely pictures.

The editorial team here were pretty split over the winner, with several different photos attracting support, but in the end we decided to go with Miette-Chan's gorgeous pairing of Misaka Mikoto and Misaka Imouto, as seen in the header. Congratulations Miette, get in touch with me (martin@tomopop.com) to claim your prize. Very well done to all the other entrants as well, and keep your eyes open as we should have another contest in the very near future!

REMINDER - Tomopop Micropixel: Summer Holidays photo
REMINDER - Tomopop Micropixel: Summer Holidays
by Martin Siggers

[Update - Last call for entries! The contest closes at midnight tomorrow, so get those final photos in!]

Hey all, it's been a little while since we last held a photo competition, so it's about time for a new one I'd say!

Given we've been having such a glorious summer, the theme this time round will be Summer Holidays. That's a pretty broad criteria, so feel free to use your imagination to come up with some fun scenarios. Whether it's bikini girls on the beach or Figuarts frolicking in the woods, as long as it's appropriately 'summery' it's eligible. Bonus points for creativity!

If you're interested in entering, then you can either leave a comment in this post with your entry, or create a CBlog with it in. One entry each only, so make sure you hit us with your best shot. This contest is open for readers worldwide, but please note if you're outside the United Kingdom then we'd nicely ask you to cover the cost of shipping the prize.

What prize you say? Well, for the winner we'll be handing out Alter's rather gorgeous Ohana Matsumae (review) courtesy of Hobbylink Japan. If you fancy having her in your collection, then you've got until Friday 30th August to enter. That's one week from today! Good luck everyone!

DST hosts Marvel Select photo contest photo
DST hosts Marvel Select photo contest
by Scarecroodle

Diamond Select Toys has announced it will be hosting a Marvel Select photo contest. Prizes will include rare variants, prototypes, and autographed copies of Marvel Select figures.

The contest, which runs from today through September 1, will evaluate entrants' photos on a mix of pose, lighting, composition, complexity and innovation. Any Marvel Select figure (or figures) produced in the line's 11-year history can be used for the contest. However, the contest doesn't allow any photoshopping (other than basic color corrections), customs (including word balloons), or figures/accessories from other toy lines.

Entries should be sent to collectdst@gmail.com and include a name, mailing address, and phone number. Only one entry is allowed per person and the photo can't have been entered in any previous DST contest.

Prizes will be awarded to the first, second, and third-place winners. For a full list of prizes, check out the contest notice.

While it's been a while since the ol' Scarecroodle has entered a contest, you can be sure that Tomopop's Western properties editor will try to get in on the action. The only real issue is knowing which figure to use... and, well, how to use it. The Marvel Select Juggernaut, for instance, is one of the coolest figures ever produced in the line but seems a bit limited.

Good Smile Company's Summer photo contest is now open! photo
Good Smile Company's Summer photo contest is now open!
by Andres Cerrato

Get out your cameras, your props and locations set as Good Smile has opened for entries in their summer Scale Figure Photo Contest. The rules are now available in English and there's only a couple of things to keep in mind. One, the obvious, being that the subject of the photo be a GSC-related scale figure. You can throw your Nendos and figma in there as well, but the focus will be your scale figure. Once you've taken your shot, take another with your name and the figure's name on a piece of paper. You've gotta prove that it's actually yours after all.

What do you win for your efforts? If you're good and lucky, quite a bit. The grand prize winner will take home 10 GSC scale figures and your photo featured on the GSC page for 24 hours. The jury prize will also hand out 2 scale figures to a few entries of their choosing. For those wanting a democratic winner, 2 winners will be selected by the people, with those also getting 2 scale figures of their own. Even if you don't feel that your entry may be up to par, 5 entries will be chose at random to receive a scale figure.

You don't have too long to act, as entries will close on July 7th. Votes will continue to collect through July 17th with the winners being announced on July 28th during WonderFes. I'm sure some of you have ideas already of what to do, so get to it!

Japanese restaurant offers chance to win life-size Rei photo
Japanese restaurant offers chance to win life-size Rei
by Jeremy Emerje Crocker

It's easy to make fun of American's for being food gluttons, but Japan sure does love to do some crazy food promotions! Remember that Windows 7 burger that was offered at Japanese Burger Kings a few years ago? Well say hello to Lotteria's "Q-Dan Cheeseburger" made in honor of the Japanese DVD and Blu-ray release of Evangelion Shin Gekijō-ban Q (Quickening) (or Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo in English).

Taking advantage of the letter Q sounding like the Japanese number nine (kyu) the fast food chain devised this cheeseburger with nine beef patties and nine slices of cheese. The burger (does something like this even qualify as a burger anymore?) also comes with a Lance of Longinus fork just to remind you that this is an Eva thing. Incidentally, I believe Lotteria is also what you get from eating a nine layered cheeseburger. The whole thing comes to ¥1,280 which is actually a bit cheaper than the previous Burger King abomination.

Now here's the part that makes this figure related: The burger will become available on April 24, the same day as the video releases. From then until May 31 people (I assume in Japan only) can go to the Lotteria mobile web site for a chance to win a life-size figure of Rei. Measuring 158cm or 5-feet 2-inches tall this isn't some sort of display mannequin but an actual giant articulated action figure! Seriously, check out the pic and you can see the knee and wrist joints.

Lotteria can keep their oversized burger, but the oversized figure sounds like one heck of a prize!
