SDCC 2013: Martin Hsu photo
SDCC 2013: Martin Hsu
by Natalie Kipper

Art prints, custom figures, colorful shirts, and a special Dragon Boy colorway populated Martin Hsu's San Diego Comic Con booth. All of the goodies shared a common dreamy aesthetic that should be familiar to fans of Martin's previous works. I loved his custom figures the most. Someone managed to purchase one of the four (the Trikky one) before I could snap a photo of it, sadly. I can't say I blame them, though; they are pretty darn awesome. The black and neon colored Wingrow edition of Martin's Dragon Boy figure stood in a lighted display case, drawing the eyes of passersby. Attendees also had the chance to purchase one of the second run OG edition Dragon Boys. It was too bad Blacky the Dragon Dog couldn't join him.

The custom gigantic My Little Pony figure from 2012's My Little Pony Project was also at the booth. She sort of hung around in the corner. It almost looked as though she was people-watching. Three Crabby Bear plushes, made in collaboration with Lana Crooks, joined in. A collection of Martin's art prints were available for purchase, organized across the booth's table and hung on the sides. You can see a few of them in this post's gallery.

Flat Wooper Looper makes his return to SDCC photo
Flat Wooper Looper makes his return to SDCC
by Natalie Kipper

Gary Ham's lovable axolotl buddy, Wooper Looper, hit San Diego Comic Con last year in the form of plushes, sofubi, Dunnys, and Holly Stanway's Caveys. It wasn't until earlier this year that Gary joined forces with Flat Bonnie to create the first run of Flat Wooper Looper plushes. The adorable 10 inch tall guy sold for the price of US$80 each. This time around, the price has been slashed to US$45. The price isn't the only thing that has changed. Instead of the original pink/white color scheme, the 2013 SDCC exclusive Flat Wooper Looper will be made in a white fleece with Tiffany Blue pleather accents.

These plushes are limited to 20 handmade, numbered pieces. Flat Bonnie teased on her Facebook page that #0 (yes, there is a number 0) will be extra-special. They will be available for purchase at Gary Ham's booth (#5139) at San Diego Comic Con.

Andrew Bell's Can of Worms gets a con-exclusive colorway photo
Andrew Bell's Can of Worms gets a con-exclusive colorway
by Natalie Kipper

Wondercon recently released a list of the exclusives that will be available to con-goers. One of the list's highlights for vinyl collectors is sure to be the Gray Version of Andrew Bell's delightful Can of Worms (previously covered here). The figure will be available for purchase at DeKorner's booth (number 1179) for the price of US$50 each. The Gray Version is limited to 100 pieces so if you plan on purchasing this unique piece, I'd visit the booth early in the day.

I know I am biased, being an Andrew Bell fan, but I really like the Can of Worms. I think this con-exclusive colorway really adds to the figure in manner that is hard to describe in words. Where the original colorway is more lighthearted, this one brings a somewhat subdued awareness that I appreciate.

What do you all think of the Gray Version? Are any Wondercon attendees adding this one to your shopping list?
