Wonder Festival 2014 Summer: Kotobukiya announces ARTFX J Cardcaptor Sakura

Those of you who've followed the blog will know of my near continuous requests for scale Cardcaptor Sakura figures. Well, good news has come out of Wonder Festival - it's finally happening!  Surprisingly, though, th...

Wonder Festival 2014 Summer: Kaiyodo's Mega Sofubi Advance

Did I just completely miss this whole arm of Kaiyodo's corpus? I'm always awed and amazed (sometimes not in the best way) by super-huge toys. In this case, I definitely got a good impression, though. As I turned the corner, I...

Wonder Festival 2014 Summer: MegaHouse's Tieria Erde

MegaHouse's Tieria is just one of those figures that demanded more pictures than just the one or two. I might be wrong, but I think this is the first time we're seeing it in color, too. I was a little bit dubious of this figu...

Wonder Festival 2014 Summer: Kotobukiya shows Black Butler

I was rather impressed with the Black Butler display over at Kotobukiya's booth at Wonder Festival featuring Ciel and Sebastian. They're still unpainted prototypes, but man do those figures look amazing, especially with the f...

Wonder Festival 2014 Summer: Good Smile Racing

Wouldn't be a Wonder Festival if Good Smile Company didn't bring along some Hatsune Miku figures for us. They pulled out all the stops with the latest race queen versions of Miku including no less than two figmas, some fun Ne...

Wonder Festival Summer 2014: Aniplex Plus

Though it hasn't been around long, Aniplex's exclusive plus line has already garnered an enviable reputation. It's partially due to smart pairings with established manufacturers such as Good Smile Company and partially due to...

Wonder Festival 2014 Summer: FREEing

FREEing definitely know a good thing when they see it, as their booth was packed with their popular range of yukata-clad ladies. It seems like paired sets are the new hotness in FREEing's world. For me the highlight here is d...

Wonder Festival 2014 Summer: Cu-Poche photo
Wonder Festival 2014 Summer: Cu-Poche
by Scarecroodle

[ UPDATE: Additional close-ups added to the gallery ]

Kotobukiya's Cu-Poche display at Summer WonFes included more outfits for the girls (come to think of it, we haven't had one male Cu-Poche yet...) and a placard showing that KanColle will soon invade the line (I guess KanColle has run out of places to invade?).

Otherwise it looks like the swimsuit body may have a white variant (see Saber). There also seem to be some new bodies and what looks to be some kind of a concert set (pictured on a placard) While the Cu-Poche line continues to develop an interesting amount of supporting products, it would be nice if Kotobukiya ramped up the character selection a little faster.

Be sure to check out the gallery.

Wonder Festival 2014 Summer: Kotobukiya - Star Wars

STAR WARS: COVERAGE XXI

The Kotobukiya Alliance has taken refuge at Summer WonFes to escape the storm trooper army at SDCC. Thus does a lonely group of mostly unpainted Rebels slowly bide its time on display at WonFes, waiting for a chance to strike back at the evil Empire...

Now that the non-scrolling recap is out of the way, Kobotukiya had a few of its pre-painted, snap-together Star Wars model kids on display at WonFes. The roster notably included an unpainted Luke Skywalker (Tantooine), Leia, Chewbacca, and Han Solo. While the painted versions of Han and Chewbacca were on display at SDCC, Luke and Leia were completely absent from San Diego.

Be sure to check out the gallery.

Wonder Festival 2014 Summer: figma photo
Wonder Festival 2014 Summer: figma
by Scarecroodle

[UPDATE: Was pointed out that the figure next to the Thinker might just be an unpainted version rather than Michelangelo's David]

Spartans, great works of art, little vampires, and alien-hybrid super soldiers were just some of the figmas on display at Summer WonFes. These items included Rodan's The Thinker which, like figma Indiana Jones, belong in a museum.

The Thinker might raise a 'WTF flag' in the minds of at least a few people, but I mostly see the possibilities: a figma Statue of Liberty, a figma Sphinx, a figma Christ the Redeemer, and a figma Venus de Milo (okay, maybe not that last one!). Otherwise, The Thinker is a neat choice given that he's occasionally been parodied as coming to life in cartoons and the such.

The rest of the display included an unpainted Leonidas (300), painted Shinobu (Bakemonogatari), unpainted Solid Snake, Guyver, a thing or two I didn't recognize, and then a bunch of items already up for pre-order including figma Motoko. Check them out in the gallery.

Finally, on a bitter final note, it looks like the Conan Edogawa definitely won't receive any articulation. I was holding out hope that they just hadn't worked the jointing in rather than leaving him as a static figurine which appears to be the case. I guess I can always hope for a Nendoroid, though.

Wonder Festival 2014 Summer: Aquamarine

Just look at the banner!! There's a figure of Chaika from Hitsugi no Chaika! That should be all you need from the Aquamarine booth! But in the interest of fairness, there are a few other items worthy of note on display as wel...
