More Vinylmation Park Starz series 3 news heads our way

Jun 04 // Natalie Kipper
Series 3 will be available starting June 6, both at Disney Parks and online. A single blind box will cost US$18.95 but if you want a whole tray, it will be US$227.40. That may seem a bit more pricey than the standard Vinylmation but these figures tend to be bigger and they come packaged in a tin rather than a cardboard box. Not all of the figures have been revealed yet. But here is what has been shown so far: This is the original Barker Bird from outside The Enchanted Tiki Room at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom. And this is Dream Finder from the original Journey into the Imagination at EPCOT. Here is an Astronaut from Mission: Space at EPCOT. [Edit: this is actually from Space Mountain, found in both Disneyland and Magic Kingdom parks.] This is that caveman you see near the beginning of Spaceship Earth at EPCOT. He is the one telling the story by the fire where the pictures on the wall start moving, describing the day's hunt. Hailing from Cosmic Ray's Starlight Café in Magic Kingdom's Tomorrowland, here is Sonny Eclipse.   This is one of the Turtle floats from Disney's Electrical Parade. God, I miss that one.   The final preview is a two-pack of an Irish boy and a musical Cactus from It's a Small World. Now, onto the variants: The Country Bear Jamboree's Big Al (who first appeared in Park Starz series 1) and Trixie will be part of a special set themed to the Christmas version of their show. The two-pack will be released on June 20 at Disney Parks for US$49.95. It will be limited to 2000 pieces. Also releasing on June 20 in US Disney Parks is a variant edition of Pirates of the Caribbean's sleepy Pig Pirate. The figure will cost US$26.95 and be limited to 1000 pieces. The next pair of variant releases occurs on June 27. The first figure is a clear version of Ezra, one of the three hitch-hiking ghosts that follow the Haunted Mansion's visitors home. He will cost US$24.95 and be limited to 2000 pieces. For the second half of the June 27 releases, Mission: Space's Astronaut gets a red paint job. Like Ezra, this space explorer will cost US$24.95 but will have a slightly small edition size, 1500 pieces. Beyond the excitement of simply getting to purchase theses figures, there will also be a special event at Walt Disney World's Downtown Disney Westside. On Friday, June 27 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern at D Street, artists Caley Hicks, Casey Jones, and Thomas Scott will be on hand to sign the new series along with the variant sets. More information can be found here. [via Vinylmation World]

Tomopop LinkUP: Walking in a winter Wonder Festival

Jan 30 // Jeremy Emerje Crocker
7-Eleven in Japan (yep, that's a thing) is now base to its own Gundam. A special version of the RX-93 Nu Gundam HG Gunpla is now calling the convenience store chain home. Done up in green, white, red, and yellow the kit is only running for ¥2,625. ToysREvil posted these really cool throw pillows based on game handhelds and controllers by Castella Natalia. Love the cartoonish look to them. Studio Ghibli fan Nendojin went above and beyond simple fan art to make a sculpture of the man himself: Hayao Miyazaki. RocketNews24 has posted video of the piece being made from start to finish. Job well done! Wave previewed a pair of girls from Majestic Prince being added to the Beach Queens line. Not Wave's best work and even they don't seem enthusiastic about them considering they haven't delivered their promised additional info on the girls despite being available for pre-order now. I guess they can't all be winners. And this is what it looks like when Wave tries hard. Akiba Hobby has posted a photo review for the upcoming Beach Queens Illyasviel von Einzbern from Fate/kaleid liner PRISMA☆ILLYA. The effort they put into a figure this cute speaks for itself. In case you missed it the three figures from Hunter X Hunter are now available again for re-release. While there's nothing particularly new about them the official figma blog has posted the trio together. The real attraction is a quick three-panel comic. Check out CLayz newest Kuroneko figure from OreImo featuring a school swimsuit with cat years and tail. Oh man, she's perfect! Akiba Hobby posted a preview of Kotobukiya's Wonder Festival exclusive Kobato figure from Haganai. This is a red-dressed repaint of the figure Koto released just this past October. Looking good. Piapro posted a gallery for the upcoming Snow Miku 2014 Licca-chan doll. I kinda don't want to admit that it's growing on me... Also coming to Wonder Festival is a repaint of Orchid Seed's many Super Sonico figures. Based on a figure only just released back in December she is now sporting a chrome silver bikini. Not my kind of thing, but she does look really well made. Dark Horse has licensed the figure rights to the Powers series of comics and graphic novels. Their first piece is the impressively big Retro Girl statue which will later be followed by vinyl figures. More info can be found at the link. Kahotan posted a great gallery for Nendoroid Yoshino from Date A Live. Stiff contender for one of the cutest Nendoroids of all time! Tokidoki is collaborating Pullip on new doll Lunarosa. She's completely clad in Tokidoki fashion and even comes with a Donutella plush. She even gets her own tattoos! No price was given, but she'll be out in February. Sonico hasn't always been her full-figured self. Even she was a kid once. That's the message that Wing is sending with the prototype of their new child version of Nitro+'s digital diva. It actually is a rather cute figure in a much different way than we're used to seeing Sonico. Plum has made a new mini figure for their original character Sarah. She comes in two versions, either red or green. Both are exclusives, starting with sales at Wonder Festival for only ¥600 each. After that the red version will be sold throughout Nagano prefecture while the green one will be sold at the Lake Suwa SA (service area) for ¥700 each. Customizer Jared Flores created this really amazing Vinylmation version of the classic and iconic Dumbo ride found at Disney parks. The piece uses four Vinylmation Dumbo figures and one three-foot Vinylmation figure. Nicely done! That's all for this week! Come back next week when I'm sure we'll have another pile of Wonder Festival 2014 [Winter] previews to look at among other great things.

Tomopop LinkUP: Beach movie

Jan 23 // Jeremy Emerje Crocker
Evilos (Christopher Avalos) made this really neat Vinylmation Skeleton Warrior from the Disneyland Indiana Jones Adventure attraction. Amazing detail and I love the included weapons. Nitro+'s @t_santa posted FuRyu's latest Sonico figure to don a tiny bikini. What's interesting is that despite being beach themed with the clear swim tube and beach bag, she's wearing pants! Meanwhile Akiba Hobby has posted a gallery for Kotobukiya's long titled Love Live! School Idol Project - Natsuiro Egao de 1, 2, Jump! ver. Umi Sonada figure. There's a lot to like about this figure from that translucent wrap around her waist to that really neat splash base. Akiba Hobby also did a gallery for the recently released Yoshino swimsuit figure from Date A Live by Plum. Doesn't take long for the photographer to forget she has a face, but it's a cute figure nonetheless. Geek Crafts posted this great set of amigurumi Game of Thrones characters made by Kati Galusz complete with patterns. Winter is definitely here. Kahotan posted a fun gallery for the newly released Nendoroid Mayoi Hachikuji from the Monogatari series. The faces are perfect as usual! AmiAmi blog posted a gallery for these little Free! trading figures. Looks like the boys are having fun at a water park while they float around on tubes. They come six to a case of five characters with Rin Matsuoka getting a face variant. Of course there's no telling if you'll get all six possible figures in a case when they're released in February. Here's something Japanese movie goers are sure to recognize. This popular duo appear before movies to warn people against pirating. Premium Bandai has seen fit to capture their message as a series of figure straps. There are four possible figures and can be bought as a case of 10. We need something like this in American theaters! Tesselate is now selling their latest, the Metlex One: Blue Edition. The little three-inch guy is limited to only 10 pieces and still available for the super low price of £16 or US$26. He comes packaged with a special box, stickers, and even a badge pin. What a deal! Pinkcheaks was nice enough to get figma Mayoi her own pink bike and take some pictures. The pink and yellow fits her perfectly; she looks so adorable with it! That's it for this time, see you again next week for another round of Tomopop LinkUP!

Tomopop LinkUP: the Nendoroid rage edition

Dec 05 // Jeremy Emerje Crocker
Kahotan has a gallery previewing Nendoroid Yoshika Miyafuji: Shinden Ver. from Strike Witches. She's already been put up for pre-order, but if you wanted to know how this version has changed from the original here's how. Crunchyroll posted a report on a Dokidoki! PreCure event that took place in Japan in November. The big draw for the show was life-size statutes of the characters as well plush versions of the fairies. They also had a number of other statues from previous events on display. French site Ogaman has posted a gallery for Tsume's Gemini Saga figure from Saint Seiya. It's 1/6 scale and cast in polyresin so it should be a pretty solid piece. Fantastic Plastic Toys has revealed three new colorways in their Mystical Warriors of the Ring mini figure line. Their online store has three-packs of Pearlescent Blue for US$9 and Glow in the Dark for US$10. Plus they're doing their first retailer exclusive, Pearlescent Black, for Jay's CD & Hobby. Kahotan did a release gallery for Nendoroid Tohka Yatogami from Date A Live. There's also a preview of Nendoroid Yoshino as well. If it's male figures you're looking for then TeniPuri.com has a prototype preview of Kotobukiya's upcoming ARTFX J Yukimura Seiichi figure from Prince of Tennis. No real details to go by at this time aside from it being 1/8 scale. GSC held one of their live broadcasts last week and figsoku has posted screen caps. It's mostly stuff we've seen before, but we do get our first good look at figma Yukari Akiyama from Girls und Panzer. Plus there's a new look at Nendoroid Akagi and some of her accessories from Kantai Collection. Pinkcheeks posted a great gallery featuring some Nendoroids exchanging gifts for Christmas. Cute stuff! Tokyo Otaku Mode is reporting on a number of new exclusive Gundam kits coming to Gundam Front Tokyo. The four sets, all with pretty long names include HGUC RX-0 Unicorn Gundam Unit 3 Phoenix (Destroy Mode) Ver. GFT ( Limited Gold Coating), HGUC 1/144 Unicorn Gundam Unit 2 Banshee (Destroy Mode) Ver. GFT, MG 1/100 RX-78-2 Gundam Ver. 3.0 Ver. GFT, and BB Warrior Gogg & Acguy & Zock Ver. GFT Tricolor Paint. Disney posted new images of Pixar Vinylmation series 2 on their blog. They added word bubbles to each pic so give them a look. Hot Toys is showing off the latest hero to join their 1/6 Avengers movie line: Bruce Banner! You can either get him alone or in a regional exclusive two-pack with Hulk. Kixkillradio did two festive galleries featuring Cu-Poche girls celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas. Those Thanksgiving costumes are such a great idea! That's all for this week! Hope you call come back next week for another Tomopop LinkUP!

A round-up of exclusive toys coming to Disney's D23 Expo

Aug 01 // Natalie Kipper
Before we dive into the exclusives that are available for purchase at the event, I also want to touch on several of the various toy-related activities at different Pavilions within the expo. One I am particularly looking forward to takes place over at the Disney Consumer Products Pavilion and it's called "What Makes a Puppet a Muppet?" Judging from the website's description, it looks like attendees will get the chance to make their very own Muppet plush as well as take part in other "puppet-making experiences." I would assume these activities cost money but no price has been listed. Disney Interactive will also have a Pavilion as well a host a panel on the last day of the convention (Sunday, August 11) in which the first 5,000 attendees will receive a never-before-seen Disney Infinity figure.  You can see more about D23 Expo's Pavilions and panels over at the event's official page. Now, onto the exclusive merchandise! First up, we see the D23 Expo Sorcerer Logo vinylmations, available in clear, blue, and yellow. Designed by Caley Hicks, this series is limited to 2,000 pieces. Each 3-inch figure will cost US$16.95. This Black and White Minnie vinylmation will fit right in with the Steamboat Willie Redux displays over at the Disney Consumer Products Pavilion. She was designed by Eric Caszatt and will cost US$16.95. This figure is limited to 2,000 pieces. The set, featuring Paul Bunyan and Babe the blue ox, is probably my favorite of the con-exclusive vinylmations. This one is limited to 1,000 pieces and will retail for US$29.95. The pair was designed by Ron Cohee. Thomas Scott's Angel and Devil Donald Duck set is limited to 2,000 pieces. The naughty and nice pair will cost US$29.95. The Beauty and the Beast vinylmation set, designed by Caley Hicks, depicts Belle and the Beast from the snowball fight scene. This pair is limited to 1,500 pieces and will cost US$29.95. This next set from the mind of Ron Cohee depicts two of the monsters from the recent Monsters University movie, one from the EEK sorority and another from HSS. The pair are limited to 1,500 and will cost US$29.95. This vinylmation set, designed by Thomas Scott, pays homage to the Silly Symphony in which a fairy grants a mouse's wish to fly (yes, that is a mouse; not a bat). The set is limited to 1,000 pieces and will retail for US$29.95. If the vinylmations weren't enough to make your wallet beg for mercy, Duffy will also make an appearance at this year's D23 Expo as a 12 inch plush, dressed up just for the event. We have also heard news of a Buzz Lightyear Small Fry action figure, based on the Pixar short film, but no official images have been released. So, any Tomopeople heading to the Expo this year? It looks to be a blast! [via Disney Parks Blog, Disney Parks Merchandise]

And with that in mind, here is a look at the collectible toy goodness to be found at this year's D23 Expo!

Custom Made Monday: Lights, camera, art

May 06 // Brian Szabelski
Firefighter Iron Man by Derek Kwok Tsz Kin So starting with the customs featured in the header, we've got another custom Hot Toys Iron Man figure here. Ths one is a late addition to the Iron Man display in Hong Kong's Hysan Place, and it comes from director Derek Kwok Tsz Kin. Called the Firefighter Ironman, it was inspired by his upcoming film As The Light Goes Out, which is about firefighters. The creation is supposed to be a rescure robot walking out from a hellish fire, which turns out to be part-machine, and part-zombie, like some kind of undead firefighting Robocop, I guess? In any case, there's some impressive work here on the detailing, especially the zombified portions of it. Check out those teeth, for just one small example! Ecto-1 Fatcap by Sket One So I'm a huge Ghostbusters fan, enough that I've come close multiple times to hunting down a beige jumpsuit and getting to work on making my own outfit for Ghostbusting (and conventions). Thus, when I saw Sket's Ecto-1 Fatcap, I pretty much fell in love with it. Painted in white with a working red "gumball" siren light on top, Sket's also thrown in a custom PKE meter and ghost trap as accessories for show. Yep, it's beautiful, and sadly, it's already sold for US$550 to some lucky collector. Le sigh. :( [via The Blot Says] Mushroom Munny by Mijbil Mijbil's latest is a 4-inch Munny with a little bit of an interesting "hair-do" ... well, I shouldn't say it's hair because it's fungi. She says in her blog post on the Munny that the idea came to her on a Sunday afternoon and that the project was challenging. Part of that is due to the mushrooms on the head, and to a greater extent, the metal powder she used to coat the inside of the fungi. It took her a couple attempts to get things right because of the high melting temperature of the powder compared to the vinyl materials, but I think the work speaks for itself, doesn't it? If you want to pick him up, you can grab it from Mijbil's store. Poisonous Terror Dart Frog by Nemo Nemo has sent us his latest piece, a custom he's done for Matt A's Night Terror Owl Series 2 figure set. Nemo's creation is a bit more tropical and reptilian, and he calls it the Poisonous Terror Dart Frog. Obviously, the inspiration for the design are the colorful poison dart frogs of the Amazon, and I think he's done a pretty good job turning the claws into something more like webbed toes. The Band by Task One Tenacious Toys and Task One's Pillaging Pop Culture series has just launched its fifth wave of customs based on your childhood. The latest trio of custom Munnys features a few characters that can carry a tune or two. Maybe their music has a little bit of teeth to it? Perhaps enough to put a little scoot in your stride? Or maybe I can just stop making puns based off the characters' names. The Wave 5 pieces are still in the Tenacious Toys shop for US$40 each (or US$100 for all three figures). The final wave will drop in two weeks on May 19; stay tuned for info on what designs are in that! Death Munny by Sciurus Customs We previously spotlighted Sciurus Customs' Nightwing Munny, and now there's a new one worth checking out. They've done a splendid version of Death from Neil Gaiman's Sandman universe, complete with some nicely textured hair. Since she's only black and white, there's not a lot you could do color-wise, but the shading and linework here in regards to paint is superb. Rocket Rabbit by Jenn and Tony Bot The Bots' latest adorable polymer clay-coated custom is this little fellow here. His name is Rocket Rabbit, and true to his name, he is a rabbit with a jetpack. What really caught my attention is the detailing on the smoketrail coming out of the jetpack's rockets. While it serves as a nice base, the differences in how the base is shaped kind of gives the look of smoke spreading as it hits the ground.  Prohibition Dunnys by Stu Witter Stu Witter's latest Dunny series is a collection of 1920s-style inspired Dunnys. Featuring cops, crooks and those caught in between, Stu has assembled a fun cross-section of anthromorphic bootleggers and lawbringers. Check out the link above to see them all and let us know in the comments which one is your favorite! Goro M.U.S.C.L.E. custom by Plastic Playhouse Hey, you got your Mortal Kombat in my mini-figures: Plastic Playhouse has made a Goro figure out of a Ashuraman no Sensei figure from the M.U.S.C.L.E. line. Ashuraman just happens to have four arms, so with a little bit of orange paint and some detailing work ... boom, there's Goro. Looks really cool and better yet, he's possibly on sale right now. You can go to this thread on Little Rubber Guys to purchase him, as long as he's not sold yet! [via Man-E-Toys] Maschinen-THUG by Wizko Graphix Wizko Graphix has taken Unison Labs' THUG.GY figure and turned it into something a little closer to what you might see from Maschinen Krieger. The head has become a cockpit for the mech, complete with space for a Playmobil-based pilot to fit inside and a hinged entry hatch. Some other smaller plastic parts to serve as weaponry or armor plating add to the look, along with the weathered finish in a military green. [via TOYSREVIL] Custom Dunny by JALOS Finally, we finish this week off with a new custom from JALOS. This little guy has a pretty heavy urban graffiti feel to him, along with some additional sculpting to make him look a little more like a cat or a bear ... or a cat-bear. In any case, it's a fine little 3-inch custom that might not be the flashiest around, but that doesn't make it bad at all. [That wraps up this week's installment of Custom Made Monday! If you have any customs you'd like to see featured, or just spot something that's eye-catching and fits the feature, be sure to e-mail us and let us know!]
Custom Made Monday photo
No CGI magic here, just talented artists plying their craft
This week on Custom Made Monday, we've gone to the movies for a bit! Or maybe back to the 1920s ... or the pages of your comic book ... or into the sky on a jetpack ... or all of the above. Why? Because they're all among this week's customs, silly. Hit the jump to check it all out!
