Think outside the box in this Nendoroid Solid Snake preview photo
Think outside the box in this Nendoroid Solid Snake preview
by Martin Siggers

After lurking in the shadows for a while, Nendoroid Solid Snake has finally emerged into the glaring light of a proper preview by Kahotan, and to say he's looking great would be an understatement. It really looks like Good Smile Company have bought their A game with this one.

For a start, Snake is one of the new super poseable style of Nendoroids, which means that he's got flexible elbow and knee joints. Furthermore, he's got a special flexible torso part allowing him to go prone. There's also a custom left leg to allow him to take up his classic 'chatting on the codec' pose, two guns, and the character's trademark cigarette.

Really though, this figure is dominated by a pair of absurdly brilliant extra parts. Snake only comes with one alternate face, but what a face it is. Good Smile have recreated his original Playstation 1 low-polygon face (supposedly from the actual game's data) and included it as an entire separate head part. It's equal parts amazing and absurd and definitely makes him stand out, if nothing else.

The second extra is of course Snake's constant companion, the cardboard box. It's not jsut any box accessory though. Not only is it big enough for Snake to actually hide under, but Kahotan confirms it's actually a perfect miniature replica of the box he'll ship in, emblazoned with GSC logos and Snake's Nendoroid number (#447). It's a great little in-joke and the kind of detail that really makes you appreciate the thought that went into the figure.

Kahotan ends her post by highlighting some incoming additions to the Metal Gear range that were unveiled at Wonder Festival or earlier - Nendoroid Venom Snake (from The Phantom Pain), figma Snake and figma Gurlukovich Soldier. There's also the important news that pre-orders for Snake open tomorrow. I was on the fence earlier but I think it's fair to say this preview has thoroughly convinced me. Who's with me?

SDCC 2014: Sideshow Collectibles - Hot Toys

Hot Toys' 1/6-scale figures were featured at Sideshow's booth as usual. This year they had a couple of vehicles, some figures from The Dark Knight and Avengers, and lots of Iron Men. So many Iron Men. You should know the drill by now: hit the jump to see my impressions and favorites.

figma Solid Snake sneaks out of the shadows, brings Nendoroid version with him photo
figma Solid Snake sneaks out of the shadows, brings Nendoroid version with him
by Martin Siggers

We'd already known Nendoroid Solid Snake was coming thanks to an announcement at Wonder Festival. Now though it seems Good Smile Company have gone deeper into Kojima territory, as on livestream today it was revealed Max Factory have been preparing a figma version of the grizzled hero.

This is no artwork reveal either. Instead we got a look at a fully sculpted grey prototype that seems pretty close to final, what with the high level of detailing. That's not all though, as we also got to see a fully painted and seemingly complete Nendoroid Snake.

They're both looking really great, with the level of detail on figma Snake a particular eyecatcher. No further details are forthcoming but I'd have to imagine they'll get out soon. The Nendoroid in particular looks preview-ready. We'll be sure to go on high alert for more news.

Revoltech goes small with new revolMiNi line

Revoltech hasn't held much attention lately. It's kind of saddening, but the line has failed to capture our imaginations with licenses and the actual product like figma and Figuarts have. That's not to say that Kaiyodo is any...
