Miku Type 2020 is almost here, looking gorgeous photo
Miku Type 2020 is almost here, looking gorgeous
by Martin Siggers

We were stunned by her first appearance at Wonder Festival last July, and now nine months later Kahotan has put out word that Max Factory's terrific Hatsune Miku Type 2020 is shipping out to lucky buyers. To celebrate the occasion, we've been gifted a preview gallery that confirms she's still as pretty as ever.

As anyone who's ever read any of my articles knows I'm obsessed with the portrayal of movement in figures and this is one of the best examples I've ever seen. The way her train flows out behind her, the ribbons on her wrists and ankles, and of course those colossal twin tails of hair - it all adds up to one great looking figure (and at 1/7 scale pretty huge too). Are any of you lucky readers awaiting her arrival?

Preview gallery appears for figma Archer, needlessly raises fans' hopes that it may actually come out photo
Preview gallery appears for figma Archer, needlessly raises fans' hopes that it may actually come out
by Scarecroodle

[UPDATE: Pre-orders are now open, but don't hold your breath that he'll actually be released]

Max Factory has cruelly raised fans' hopes by posting a preview gallery for figma Archer, a figure that was first used taunt fans at a convention back in 2010. The move, among other recent talk, has fooled many into believing that figma Archer will actually be produced.

Archer (identity withheld) was the only name associated with the Archer-class servant of the Fifth Grail War who appeared in Fate/Stay Night. As Rin Tohsaka's servant, Archer had a prominent supporting role in the anime and was a master of assorted weapons (many of which were inspired by other heroic weapons). figma Archer will apparently include his two iconic blades (Kanshou and Bakuya) as well as his (unnamed?) bow and spiral sword Caladbolg II (which was used as an arrow).

While pre-orders have opened for the figure, skeptical collectors assume that there will be a series of delays followed by an abrupt cancellation accompanied by a "GOTCHA!" message. If you want to hop on the emotional roller-coaster that is figma Archer, he's listed for ¥4,630 and is initially slated for a late August release.

On a more personal note, a lot of my enthusiasm has tapered off over the past three or four years that I've waited to see the character get a release. I was absolutely enamored by the figma line in general when I started collecting it five or six years but that opinion has waned in light of increasing price points, competition from other companies (like Bandai), and a general collectors' fatigue (the features I dislike about the line seem more apparent, the things I like become harder to find). As such, what seemed like incredible news when he was first unveiled almost feels like just another release today.

figma Ryuko gets officially previewed, pre-orders open tomorrow photo
figma Ryuko gets officially previewed, pre-orders open tomorrow
by Martin Siggers

You haven't been able to move for Kill la Kill figure news over the past couple of days (Nendoroid Mako was just this morning!), and it doesn't look like the rush is about to slow down, as the figma blog has taken the wraps off of their preview of Ryuko Matoi. We first saw her pop up at WonFes, but this is the first time we've had cameras on her in a studio.

Ryuko looks predictably great, and the preview is careful to highlight some small touches that you might not notice at first glance, like the hidden thigh joints or the way her chest straps can stretch to aid posing. We also get confirmation on the standard three figma faces to be included - happy, angry and in pain.

She's certainly looking sharp, and the best news is you won't have too wait too long to get your order in.  Pre-orders open tomorrow at ¥4,800. Who's buying?

Max Factory shows off figma Ryuko, teases figma Mako photo
Max Factory shows off figma Ryuko, teases figma Mako
by Martin Siggers

In the same stream where we got a look at Nendoroid Mako, the fine people over at Good Smile Company bought in their Max Factory compatriots for a quick preview of figma Ryuko, who I'd suspect is pretty close to opening for orders. We get to see some nice all-around shots and a hilariously over-the-top shouting face that's very much in character. There's also a look at an additional accessory, her Scissor Blade in extended 'decapitation mode'.

At the end of the segment, the team also showed off a MYSTERY SILHOUETTE teasing what's coming next. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to work it out - that exceptionally round head all but confirms figma Mako Mankanshoku is on her way. You could never separate these two after all.

Kahotan plays no games with her Tsurugi Yagami preview photo
Kahotan plays no games with her Tsurugi Yagami preview
by Brian Szabelski

Kahotan's latest preview is of Max Factory's upcoming Tsurugi Yagami figure, featuring the adult-game-playing homeroom teacher from Sasami-san@Ganbaranai. She's dressed in her casual clothes, controller in hand and a blushing, yet happy expression on her face. Just what kind of game is she enjoying so much? Well ... I guess that's up your imagination.

Kahotan says pre-orders for the 1/7-scale Tsurugi Yagami begin on March 20, which should be in the evening on March 19 if you live in North America. Will you be picking her up for your collection?
