Good Smile announces first delays of 2014

Good Smile Company has just announced their releases and their delays for January and it's a pretty regular month. Which is to say, there's a fair few delays, some of them disappointingly high profile. Probably the most notab...

Tomopop LinkUP: Art is a blast!
by Jeremy Emerje Crocker

Hello and welcome to the latest installment of Tomopop LinkUP! I hope people enjoyed the special Transformers edition of LinkUP I did last week, but now we're back to our regular routine. There's been a lot of stuff happening as of late with the more creative among us. I like to think I'm creative, but I'm more of an idea person. When it comes to putting paint to plastic or clay to wheel it never looks as good as it does in my head. Some of us have it and some of us just write about the people who have it I guess.

This week we've got not one, but two artist interviews to pass along, as well as some designer stuff and a bunch of photo galleries. Let's get to it after the jump, shall we?

Delays hit Alter's release schedule photo
Delays hit Alter's release schedule
by Yami Casas

I knew things seemed a bit too quiet in Alter-land. After all, Alter wouldn't be Alter without a delay or two on a monthly basis, right? Right. They recently updated their September shipment schedule, and as you can probably guess, the dreaded "D" is upon us once again. This time around, it's packing quite the list of delayed goodies.

Well, thanks to the delays, my wallet can breathe a sigh of relief. However, this means I have to wait another month before Raven officially joins my Tales shrine. What about you, Tomochii's? Are any of these delays cause for budgetary relief or disappointment?

ACen 2013: Max Factory

Most of Max Factory's presence at ACen was in figma form, but they had a trio of scale PVC figures there too. Two of them are recent releases: DRAMAtical Murder's Aoba, and Horizon on the Middle of Nowhere's Tomo. Aoba looked...

Preview Alter's Kazuno from Kyokai Senjou No Horizon photo
Preview Alter's Kazuno from Kyokai Senjou No Horizon
by Jon Wills

Ever seen Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere? I watched it some and while it had some interesting concepts, the amount of fan service present had scared me off. Still if you want to check out the show it is available for streaming over at Crunchyroll.

One of the neat ideas of the show was the inclusion of these robot maids. Kazuno is one of these maids which this figurine by Alter is based on. I was talking to Chris Seto, one of my fellow editors and he told me that her model looks like it is based on Kazuno's first appearance in the series where she used telekinesis to lift up huge chunks of the ground to use as giant swords. If you look at the gallery you can see that Alter has included both of these huge makeshift swords and while it is awfully cool that they have done that I can't help but to think that I would rather have two figurines standing on either side of her than to have the two swords there. Thankfully those two swords are held up "telekinetically" thus not actually attached to the figure and are entirely optional to display. Still I have to admit the effect presented by having them is very cool, but I would have liked to see more detail on the two individual blades.

Kazuno herself is of course lovely. She looks very elegant in her uniquely styled maid outfit. Alter has done a fantastic job sculpting her in motion and making her look super good from every angle. As always there is an Alter level of detail put into every square centimeter of her. This detail is not necessarily evident in the texturing but rather the sculpting of every frill and just bringing the whole feel forward with the piece.

If you're interested in Kazuno, according to Alter's blog she should be available for pre-order starting May 8th

Chara-Ani's Masazumi Honda is on the horizon

You know what can be a fun game? Making up a story to explain the poses some of these figures wind up in. Why did Masazumi's pants fall down? Why is she covering her chest with her arms? I don't know but it might be fun to sp...
