Funko shows off Black Butler vinyl Pop! figures

As someone who balks at the ever-increasing prices of licensed PVC toys and statues of my favorite characters, I'm totally cool with seeing Funko pick up Japanese properties for their Animation line of Pop! vinyl figures. Che...

Spidey 2099, new Venom, and two other Pop!s coming exclusively to Walgreens photo
Spidey 2099, new Venom, and two other Pop!s coming exclusively to Walgreens
by Scarecroodle

It wasn't that long ago that I never had a reason to step foot inside a Walgreen's but, within the past year or so, the small pharmacy has managed to land exclusive after exclusive. The retailer's most recent coup is four of Funko's Marvel Pop!s: Spider-Man 2099, Venom, a black-suited Spider-Man, and the Punisher.

While the news had me at "Spidey 2099", I also find my eyes drawn to that Venom and his wickedly evil face (and claws!). Thoroughly impressed, I figured I'd see how he stacked up against the previous Pop! Venom(s) and... I couldn't find any. This *might* be the first-ever Pop! Venom, who easily numbers among the most popular Spidey rogues, and yet he's an exclusive for a marginal (as far as collectibles go) retailer. Say whaaaaaa?

Although it's not unusual for Funko to give retailers exclusive Pop!s (in fact, *most* retailers seem to get an exclusive Pop!), but usually it's just one or two items in a larger wave and they're often just variants of a character in that same wave (like a white-robed Raven). However, this crazy news is making Walgreens -- which also scored Hasbro exclusives -- suddenly seem relevant.

These figures are slated to release in January and hopefully won't be hard to find. Some of Walgreens' previously held exclusives were on its website (and as a pre-order, no less!) months and months before popping up at retail.

Funko brings the truth from out there into your home photo
Funko brings the truth from out there into your home
by Scarecroodle

Before there was Californication, David Duchovny starred in a little known scifi/horror/drama tv series called the X-Files. Maybe you've heard of it? The show ran for around nine years and is widely considered one of the greatest things to ever grace television.

The series that helped to lay the ground-work for countless tv shows has been honored with some new collectibles. Funko will be producing X-Files Pop! and Wacky Wobbler figures. The selection includes agents Mulder and Scully (who appear as both Wacky Wobblers and Pop!s) as well as the sinister Cigarette Smoking Man and an alien grey (Expect Agent Doggett to appear if Pop! David Duchovny decides to work on his movie career).

The figures, which are available for pre-order now, are slated to release in February.

Will you go crazy for Funko's Pop! Cthulhu? photo
Will you go crazy for Funko's Pop! Cthulhu?
by Scarecroodle

The end may be upon us, as Cthulhu has not only woken up but rolled out of bed into Funko's Pop! line. Even more frightening? He's currently available for pre-order!

Cthulhu will be the third character to appear in Funko's Pop! Books series (the other two being from Where the Wild Things Are), as this version is apparently directly inspired by the good works of horror luminary H.P. Lovecraft. This cosmic horror is the centerpiece of the Cthulhu Mythos and, in terms of horror literature, almost ranks right up there with Dracula and Frankenstein's Monster. However, Cthulhu hasn't been adapted directly to film that often probably due to his lazy attitude (sure, he can bring the end times whenever he wants, but first he's going to take another nap).

Funko's Pop! Cthulhu straddles the border of being maddeningly scary and maddeningly cute in small part due to his narrowed eyes. As such, I'm not sure if he's an "awww" or an "AAAAH!" and it's driving me crazy.

Pop! Cthulhu can be pre-ordered for around US$10 and is slated for release in January/February.

Is it time to Pop! open the Jungle Book? And, um, something Robin Hood photo
Is it time to Pop! open the Jungle Book? And, um, something Robin Hood
by Scarecroodle

Funko has released some official images of its upcoming Pop! figures from two classic Disney films. The Jungle Book's Mowgli, Shere Khan, and Kaa as well as Robin Hood's Robin Hood, Prince John, and Sir Hiss (no relation to King Hiss) are slated for release this month.

While I can't say that I was a fan of either film as a kid, Prince John, Kaa, Shere Khan, and Sir Hiss (see gallery) are adorable. I'm somewhat less found of the titular Robin Hood, but he still looks pretty neat.

Expect to see these guys on shelves near you in the near future, if they aren't there already. (Especially if you've already bought them. Then you'd just need to look over to see them on the shelves.)

Flock yeah! Hot Topic to carry a flocked Pop! Simba photo
Flock yeah! Hot Topic to carry a flocked Pop! Simba
by Scarecroodle

VinylMation World has posted an image of an upcoming Hot Topic-exclusive flocked Pop! Simba. However, he's not the only upcoming Hot Topic exclusive as the retail chain will also be receiving a (far less exciting) black & white Pop! Loki.

Although I'm not the biggest Simba fan, I'm excited to see flocked Pop!s at normal retailers rather than just being convention or online exclusives (acknowledging that B&N *did* carry some SDCC exclusives but I missed my chance at a reasonably priced flocked Rocket Raccoon because I learned about that information too late). Hopefully this is the start of a trend where we'll see a lot of other Pop!s with flocked variants as well, including The Lion King's Scar, The Jungle Book's Shere Khan, etc.

Funko's Pop! Star Sapphire Wonder Woman & Frost Giant Loki to be sold exclusively at NYCC photo
Funko's Pop! Star Sapphire Wonder Woman & Frost Giant Loki to be sold exclusively at NYCC
by Scarecroodle

Funko has shown off two versions (each) of its upcoming NYCC-exclusive Pop! Star Sapphire Wonder Woman and Frost Giant Loki, to be sold at Fugitive Toys' booth (#410).

Both versions will be available in a standard edition as well as a variant; Star Sapphire WW has a metallic costume version while Frost Giant Loki seems to glow in the dark. I have to admit being a little surprised that the standard version of Star Sapphire is an exclusive in the first place, given that there's some fan demand for the character and she's more than just a simple repaint. Usually the more sculpting a figure gets, the more mileage its maker tries to get although I guess the body work must be minor enough that Funko isn't overly invested in the figure.

No word on pricing, but Fugitive Toys' previous exclusive Funko Pop! White Lantern Batman apparently ran for US$17 while its glow-in-the-dark version was US$25.
