NSFW Tomopop Review: Full Puni Yamanobe Tomo by Evolution Toy

Apr 03 // Jonathan Tubbs
Figure Name: Seikon no Qwaser - Full Puni Yamanobe Tomo Standard EditionFigure Maker: Evolution ToyRetail/List Price: ¥8,800Available at: Hobby Link Japan    The box seems innocent enough. You get a clear, large product photo of Tomo splashed on the box. A clear window shows you everything you get with the figure. Well, almost everything. It advertises that this is the standard edition. Why standard? We'll discuss that here soon. It will also explain why this packaging is long for this single figure. The inside packaging tray houses all the parts of the figure including her faces, hands, stand, and her exposed breasts. The packaging tray is designed to be the storage container for the figure which would explain the length of it. The facial expressions includes are a happy face, a laughing face, a shy face and a smiling face. For hands, the sets include relaxed hands, closed fists, spread fingers and a set that are clearly positioned in a manner for pleasuring one self. The middle set of fingers are definitely not pushed in enough for the devil horns. For an additional ¥2,000, you could be the proud owner of the DX Edition and be filling those empty spaces with an additional face and a completely nude body. Sounds hot, right? Well ... we'll get to that soon. Speaking of hot, the base including with the figure is quite impressive. The feet on the base can be adjusted, removed, and connected with other bases making it much more convenient when posing with other figures from Evolution Toy's Full Puni line. The arms are just as useful with the figure including three arms of varying length and three hinges. The grip also includes hinges allowing you adjust it as needed to fit around wherever you choose on the figure.   At a glance, the full figure is decent looking. Tomo's design is basic so there's nothing about her that stands out. Well, minus how you can't overlook her bust size which is quiet apparent. You can see in the side profile photo how the base can be adjusted.   Though I'm sure not the selling point of the figure, it is still important to have a quality face. Tomo has just that with the painted eyes being sharp and a sculpted mouth. The hair is not the best but falls in line with most PVC figures. Now that's if you look at Tomo straight in the face. Look at her from the side and you will see a nasty side of Tomo. Just like other figures that have different faces, you would change out the face by removing the front of the hair. The only difference between those other figures and Tomo is the large, gaping hole across her seam. For the figure of this size and cost, I would expect this part to be flush. But it gets better. Look at the back of the product package and you will see that Tomo's hair is fully down and has several curls at the tops. Not on this one. It parts around the neck and across her shoulders. Great. So mold issues and a hairstyle advertised that is not on the actual figure. I actually like what her hair does in the back shown on the packaging so this is a disappointment.   I don't really know what to say here other than "Egads!" There's no way around how Tomo fills out her outfit. It's just there smacking you in the face. With the size of Tomo's breasts, I would expect more stretch marks on the clothing but the only detail for such appears above her breasts and the lower sides. If joints are a turn off for you, then this figure is not for you. As a poseable figure, Tomo has many exposed joints as seen in her elbows and shoulders. The shoulder joints are not loose and have grooves that snap the arms into position. The elbow joints follow a traditional format with no grooves to determine the poseability. You will find yourself fighting with them to get that right pose you desire. Disaster strikes again on this figure. For her upper body, there are repeated issues of a poor paint job mainly with rough edges. On that subject, the mold for this figure is definitely not completely smooth. Though not as apparent as the hair, you will find minor gaps where pieces meet as well as bumps and many seam lines.   The dress part of Tomo's uniform does a decent job of molding the folds. Unfortunately, this mold is continued to be plagued with problems with rough spots especially around the buttons. I do like that they included creased marks on the dress to show it tracing around her body. However, if you have plans of lifting Tomo's legs, good luck getting it to go beyond her dress. Due to the design of the figure, if you attempt to lift the legs to push up on her dress, you will cause the figure to pull out from the torso and come apart. Fun. It is designed to come apart at the torso but it's very annoying when trying to pose the figure. The fingers on the hands look like fingers though they suffer from lack of detail that you would see in other figures. She doesn't even have an detail for finger nails. They lack any sharpness and almost blend together. When you're ready to switch out the hands, make sure you have pliers with you. It's a reoccurring theme with this figure in that it will fight you in every way. Removing the hand is no problem. It's the fact that the entire wrist joint comes out with it. Think you can pull out the wrist joint from the hand? Forget it. It's so securely locked in there and with the little grip space given, you're going to have a heck of a time getting it out.   The stockings and the upper thigh are seen here. Can Evolution Toy mess this up, too? No, they did not. It's about time we got to another positive on this downward spiral. The knees joints are interesting in that they allow you bend the legs completely back against the thighs. I'm not sure what good this is since you can only bend the legs so far up at the waist. That speckle pattern on the shoes is not dust folks. That's the paint job. Yes. Evolution Toy somehow managed to botch painting the shoes the brown color they are meant to be. Did they cut corners thinking you wouldn't really care about looking at the shoes since this figure is about other attributes? Now for the part that I'm sure you're here for. You want to see Tomo's shapely body, huh? Well, it was inevitable. It is a review after all. So how does Tomo's plentiful bosom fair? Let's see.   Oh! What a shame! Tomo is a bit shy it would seem. The figure is designed to have her uniform straps pulled down and her shirt unbuttoned, laying to the side of her body. And with that, Tomo's breasts are exposed. One of the things that Evolution Toy is using as a selling point for these figures are the breasts. Unlike the clothed body that is PVC, the exposed breasts are made from a material that can be squished, but it's more like squeezing a rubber toy. However, if you're looking to pose Tomo squeezing or pushing on them with her arms or hands, forget about it. The material used is still too hard to pose her doing such.   You can remove Tomo's dress portion of the uniform, though this is really intended if you own the DX Edition of the figure. As you can see, it looks a bit odd above the waist. Unless you're going for the up skirt shot, this is the only way you can completely see Tomo's underwear and exposed waist.    Of course we all know the true selling point of the figure are these. With breasts as large as Tomo's, can anyone blame Evolution Toy trying to cash in? Look at all the Queen's Blade and Ikkitousen figures that have the ladies not shy about bearing it all. With so many negative points about this figure, they should have at least got this part correct. After all, these breasts are made from a soft material allowing you to squish them. Hey, I just got to squeeze my first pair of fake boobs! I'll need to check that off on my list of life goals. Just don't be expecting to be squeezing real fake boobs. As mentioned earlier, this is more like squeezing a rubber toy for your dog. Just imagine the sound of a squeaky toy as you press these breasts together. That sound in your head as you laugh at the absurdity of it will be the only joy you'll get from this gimmick. But I'm not done ranting about fake boobs. Oh, no. On the side of her left breast is a seam from the way the figure was molded that is hard to avoid when looking at Tomo from the side. And then there are the nipples. Obviously the sculptor was attempting to recreate every bit of the character based on the character designs including the erect nipples. These nips are so pointy with the way they protrude, you'd think they would be spikes on some post-apocalyptic armor. Oh, and one has a blemish on it from bad manufacturing. In the end, not very attractive. Way to go Evolution Toy! I fear what the naughty bits of the completely nude body version would look like. As I began to finish the photography for this figure, something caught my eye while fighting with the poor joint connections; the paint on her dress began to peel. This is the first time I have ever experienced anything like this for a figure. My level of frustration with the figure reached its limit. I was simply flabbergasted. I actually had to stop photographing the figure because I just couldn't wrap my head around how a company could release something as shoddy as this. Especially when it costs so much! How did they allow this to get past quality control? Did they just test it once and assume all is fine? Did they expect people to get the more expensive version for the nude body and felt they could be lazy and cheap on the actual clothed body? What were the designers and big wigs at Evolution Toy thinking? Bundle this with all the other issues I have come across, do they not understand what kind of image this gives them as a business? I don't know about you guys, but when I get a figure, I want what's shown on the package. Not this lie that I hold in my hand! How can I trust them as a business if they show me one thing and sell me something else? Cripes! I should be enjoying figures! Not raging over them! My introduction to Evolution Toy has been beyond disappointing. With a figure of this size, I would expect something a little better. Though I complained about Good Smile Company's ActSta Subaru Nakajima figure (reviewed), that figure is miles ahead of this one in terms of quality. Unless Evolution Toy can somehow show me that they can be a quality product producer for the price they charge, I have zero intention of ever buying from this company. If you really do love your perverted figures and like the whole exposed breasts thing, I strongly urge you wait until you see figures from this company heavily discounted. Granted, it's not bootleg quality, but when you have pathetic molding, frustrating joints, a lousy paint job, and receive a figure different from what is advertised, it's just hard to swallow that initial price tag. Sex sells, yes. Just remember to be cautious. As we all know, looks can be deceiving. [Thank you to the fine folks at Hobby Link Japan for giving me the opportunity to continue my quest in reviewing the larger scale poseable figures.]
