Bishoujo Cammy throws down against Chun Li in review photo
Bishoujo Cammy throws down against Chun Li in review
by Scarecroodle

AmiAmi's English blog has released a review for Kotobukiya's upcoming Street Fighter Bishoujo Cammy White and, in the process, revealed how naturally Cammy fits together with the Bishoujo Chun Li. Apparently there's at least *some* method to Shunya's madness.

Thoughts (and gallery) after the jump.

Tomopop Review: Psylocke (X-Force ver.) by Kotobukiya photo
Tomopop Review: Psylocke (X-Force ver.) by Kotobukiya
by Tianxiao Ma

Psylocke has been a popular character among Marvel Comics fans, although she's probably more known for her X-Men incarnation than her original stint as a supporting character in Captain Britain. While western manufacturers have pumped out a decent amount of Psylocke figures, only Kotobukiya has tackled the character out east. I guess those appearances in Capcom games haven't really helped her cause.

Kotobukiya's latest Psylocke rendition falls under the Marvel Bishoujo brand, and depicts our psionic ninja in her black X-Force costume. Read on to see if the figure is as awesome as being a psionic mutant ninja.

See the rest of Street Fighter Bishoujo Cammy White
by Scarecroodle

Ladies and gents, you've seen her shoulder (and back of her head), but now you can see the rest of Kotobukiya's Street Fighter Bishoujo Cammy White. The svelte Street Fighter has been revealed in her entirety thanks to a new photo gallery.

While I liked the look of the teaser, my hopes were predictably dashed when the whole thing was revealed. Besides the inescapable pinkeye, some of the musculature is a bit of a turn-off such as that... weird vein-like thing poking out of left leg (c'mon, Kotobukiya, I don't need to see that!) and the added definition at her hips where her flesh sinks in a bit. The upper body-work is still cool and, although I don't like the face, the rest of the head is nicely done.

I fully imagine that others will like this quite a bit more than I do, as I don't feel they've quite done justice to my favorite female Street Fighter. Oh well, at least the pose is kinda neat (although I feel that Megahouse's Dragon's Crown Elf did the whole "spin-breaker" better). Be sure to check out the gallery for additional images.

Tomopop Review: Tekken Bishoujo Xiaoyu by Kotobukiya
by Tianxiao Ma

It felt like yesterday when Kotobukiya's Tekken Bishoujo figures were just a nascent product line. The series has filled out quite a bit since it was first announced, and now everyone's favorite fighting Chinese schoolgirl has joined the cast.

My dream of seeing a Shunya Yamashita-designed Yoshimitsu in a skimpy outfit will probably never come true, but I'm content with the Tekken ladies getting the figure treatment. Read on to see how Xiaoyu stacks against the other gals in the line.

Kotobukiya's Star Wars Bishoujo Mara Jade isn't half-bad photo
Kotobukiya's Star Wars Bishoujo Mara Jade isn't half-bad
by Scarecroodle

[UPDATE: Pre-orders are now available through select retailers]

It's something of a rare treat that Kotobukiya should produce a Bishoujo figure that I can find myself actually praising, but the company's Star Wars Bishoujo Mara Jade is an instance where my initial thought doesn't contain some sort of criticism. Kotobukiya's photo gallery for the latest entry in its Star Wars Bishoujo series shows that the figure has no few bad angles.

Mara Jade is an Expanded Universe character in the Star Wars franchise (ie, she's not in the films) and, to vastly oversimplify her backstory, is a former Sith Lady who became a Jedi Knight through the power of Luke Skywalker's love. While I only know the character from the novels (she's also appeared in comics and games), one look at the Bishoujo and I can imagine this as Mara Jade (other than the Bishoujo face, of course, which is rather distinct to the line).

The fact that I like this one comes as a surprise to me most of all since I was nonplussed by Shunya's original illustration. However, the figure turned out far better than expected and is an absolutely gorgeous rendition of the character... well, mostly so. I will say that Mara Jade's butt seems almost disproportionally large and, unlike Sir-Mix-a-Lot, that sort of embellishment doesn't appeal to me. But wait! Here's the best part, the big saving grace! Kotobukiya thought to give Mara Jade her cloak which completely obscures the offending cheeks. (Unless you like said butt, in which case I make the point that the cloak is removable.) This optional feature corrects the biggest thing (pun absolutely intended) that I didn't like about this figure.

Mara Jade comes with two optional lightsabers: her original purple lightsaber (great if you want to display her as an Emperor's Hand) or the blue lightsaber that Luke gave her (so you can display her as a Jedi convert). Mara Jade is listed as standing 9 inches tall (i.e., 1/7-scale) and billed as coming with a special clear display base that includes "two different film inserts for your choice of presentation."

Be sure to check out Mara Jade and Kotobukiya's other Bishoujos in our NYCC coverage. Pre-orders are currently open as well. Mara Jade is listed for US$65 and has an expected May release date.
