[Update] Riobot gives us new images of their upcoming Gurren Lagann

It's been a while since we've heard about any of Sentinel's Riobot projects other than their Evangelion Unit 01. We heard about their plans for a Gurren Lagann back in February this year, then again in August. It was only in its prototype stages, but the company has finally shown off what it will look like in its true colors.

Sentinel took a stylized approach to the Gurren Lagann, and it I think it's something that the fans, as well as myself, actually like. It reminds me in some ways of Hajime Katoki's take on it mecha (reviewed), but I like this one much, much more. The new styling that Sentinel put really works for me, feeling a bit more like an actual mecha while still keeping the personality of Gurren Lagann. If this is what the final version will end up like, I'm definitely going to buy. I can only hope that their Lazengann is also this good.

There's still no release information or price available for the Riobot Gurren Lagann, but I imagine that it'll run similar to EVA Unit 01, costing around 7,500 yen. With the figure at this stage, expect pre-orders and more images to pop up soon. When that happens, we'll be sure to update.

[Update! Sentinel announced this weekend that the figure will include the backpack and be released in April of 2012 for 9,500 yen.]
