If you pay as much attention to the 18+ side of Comiket as I do, then the name Raito Honjou (or his circle's name "Zettai Shoujo") should be pretty familiar, as well as his H-doujinshi series Mahou Shoujo, which has been around since 2003. After almost a decade, the long-overdue PVC treatment has finally arrived -- and from Native, no less!
Here's Suzuhara Misae, whose dress has never been known for its durability, as this figure plainly shows. But in the parts that are still intact, there's some pretty stunning detail to be had, especially on her stocking and shoes. Raita's stylized take on female body proportions is alive and well in this figure, and combined with Native's top-notch craftsmanship, Misae-nee is looking downright stunning.
There have been a slew of changes from Raita's illuration, most particularly in the skin tone, the wings, the tail of the dress, and the ribs visible on the torso. I like changes to the wings and the dress, as they give the character a more relaxed look, but the removal of the rib details and the move away from the pale and flushed skin tone of the original illusration slightly undermine the vulnerable look of the character for me. Still, I'm just nitpicking at this point -- maybe I'm just trying to make myself feel better for not being able to afford this pre-order. Perhaps I'll wait for Sasaki of the same series, which Native is also working on.
Misae is due out this November, but you'll only have until August 20th to make up your mind, as that is when the order window closes -- assuming you are able to order from the Native web store in the first place. If you are, that's great, but if not, you'll find great middlemen in our friends Tokyo Hunter and Big in Japan. At the retail price of ¥12,000, this is not a cheap figure, but I'm sure you Raita fans will find some (hopefully legal) ways to pony up.
